I was wondering if anybody had fired both a impulse and a viking and what there thoughts were on the two. Also what are the diffrences between a viking and a excalibur. I am looking at upgrading from my current set-up, so any help is appreciated.

Well, I have some experience with Impulses and no experience with Vikings. But...
Viking Advantages:
Better Bolt, Valve, Barrel
Better foregrip with the Sidewinder(I don't like Vert MaxFlows or Gadgets)
Better trigger
Waaay nicer anno and some pretty good milling
Very gas efficient
No messing with the dwell/vision settings
Doesn't chop(if comparing to a non-vision Impulse)
Impulse Advantages:
Probably a better reg...not by much
A bit smaller(Looks to be...)
Cheaper
More popular so there are more upgrades and people to help you with problems
The Viking isn't in full production yet. Wait until they are a bit more popular and then make your descision.
While you're waiting, check out the AKA forum at www.pbnation.com

I have barely touched a Viking (although it's getting annoed up here right now) but I have a bit of experience with the Impulse. My biggest issue with the Impulse is it's height. It's a tall gun with a long trigger assembly and the added weight of that max-flow at the bottom coupled witht he weight of a hopper and paint make it a bit hard to handle sometimes.
Plus you can do all the upgrades to make it "topof the line" and it's more expensive than the Viking you don't have to upgrade.
Don't let anyone sell you on the "You need a Freak Factory Impulse... or Rat Impulse, etc."
While they are both incredibly nice markers, one of the guys on my teams uses a stock impulse (coloured matte silver with vert max-flow) and it fires like a beast and doesn't chop for him.

So what marker do you like better, and why?

Well, I actually REALLY wanted the Freak Factory Impulse. I was drooling over it...
Until... I went to the AKA booth at Skyball. It has the same "feel" as an Angel (3 tube, open bolt) but the low pressure regulator like the Matrix for no ball breaks.
Basically, it's compact, doesn't chop paint and fires fast as hell. that's why I ordered my viking. totally love it.

Thanks MuffinButt, I'm looking toward the viking, it's manufactured about 45 minutes from me, so that's a big plus too. If I ever need some costumer support.

No problem man. The only reason I may seem incredibly biased is because I now am. I was so dead set on the Freak Factory until I tried that Viking. Now I'm counting the minutes.

Dont forget that AKA has THE BEST customer service around. Smart Parts can be real b****es to get work from, I tried to get a problem on my shocker fixed and their techs wouoldn't even e-mail me back. I know people with vikes or excals dont have any problems sending in a gun and getting it right back (in the very rare event of a problem). Thats part of the reason why i plan on getting a viking.
