A good barrel, egrip with ape board, a hopper that can keep up with your bps. Remove all stock, tactical acc. if you have any. Upgrade the hammer to titanium. Magnetic trigger. Im guessing thats the kind of stuff i would do if i wanted to use my 98 for speedball. I hear that the r/t is banned from speedball tourneys. I dont know the reason though, im not all up on that kind of stuff yet.

Upgrade the hammer to titanium. The rest of your advise is right on the money, but this one I feel is a bit uninformed. Dark Horizon do not recommend using their hammers with E-grips. Sure, you can make it work, but you really don't need to. It really depends on what you're doing it for. If you're trying to increase your ROF, don't do it. However, it might be worth looking into if decreasing kick is what you're after. Even still, the 98 is such a long marker that kick is not nearly as rough as it could be.

I thought the regular not the lite titanium hammer was good for r/t and egrip. Im probably wrong. I mainly suggested the hammer since its supposed to wear alot better than a stock hammer and also to cut back on the kick. At a fast rate of fire that you get with the etrigger it would help witht he kick/accuracy. But its not really an essential upgrade, just threw it in. At minimum polish the internals.

I had a fairly long correspondence with Eric at Dark Horizon a while back. Come to think of it, it must have been quite a while ago, because we were referring to the APE board for the A-5 as "that new board". So I guess it was a few years ago.

But anyway, our conversation was mostly about debunking some rumors that had popped up about the hammers (most notably: can it be used with CO2? Predictably, we came to the conclusion that the hammer can be used with any gas source). However, there was a bit of conversation in noting the results people were having with the E-grip, which at the time was a choice between the GTA grip, the WAS board, or (for the 98) the E-bolt. The E-bolt was completely different system and wasn't even close to being compatible, so that was out. With the GTA and WAS grips, there was a problem at the circuit board level when firing at high speeds. Apparently, the hammer was returning so quickly because of it's reduced weight, the boards were not able to release the sear in time to catch it again. For some reason, this was not an issue at low ROF in semi-auto mode.

At the time, they'd been corresponding with a customer who'd installed a titanium hammer in their A-5 that was equipped with "one of those new" APE boards. He was telling me that so far, the customer had been having pretty good luck, but it was still early to tell.

The other thing is: it takes some tuning to get the gun to shoot right once you install the hammer. I have one of these hammers in one of my Autocockers, and if I didn't have a complete spring kit for the marker, I'd never have gotten it running. You need to really lighten up the valve spring tension while simultaneously cranking up the drivespring tension. The hammer weighs a lot less, so you've got to give it a lot more velocity in order to give it the same momentum.

With a normal trigger, mabe 1-2 BPS increase. You could do a Pen Spring Mod to decrease some trigger pressure.

I suggest making your own hair pin trigger by experimenting with different thicknesses of tape on the rear trigger pin.

What about the nice new BT TM7. That should work for speedball, woodsball, MilSim perfectly. A nice Rip Clip on the side too :).

Get an e-bolt. That will make your gun EP. They are somewhat expensive, and kind of hard to find...

well if i have to invest over $100 im selling my 98 for a trillogy tactical
so guys tell me cheap mods

lonewolfwarrior

well the only mod for the 98 is just a pmi razzor barrel
but isn't the wgp trilogy sf a speed ball gun?

xJakex77
06-16-2008, 05:35 PM
Do you use co2 or HPA

lonewolfwarrior
06-16-2008, 05:38 PM
co2 hpa cost too much and its haard to come by were im at

a tactical trilogy SF isn't that bad of a choice if you have anti-siphoned co2. Take a look at the smart parts vibe and spyder vs1 as well. They both run on co2 and have decent speed. They're both $100 dollars cheaper than a tactical trilogy.

lonewolfwarrior

2 things
1. i hate spyders
2. i like cockers over any smart parts gun

oh i would have to get the refurb

xJakex77
06-16-2008, 05:57 PM
lol. I don't like smart parts very much either, but i do like spyders. Did you look at the wgp synergy? i think its $160.

lonewolfwarrior
06-16-2008, 06:00 PM
i plan on using the trilogy as a speed / woods marker along with my current autococker that and ive heard acouple bad things about the synergy and the ups are limited but i like 98s fine so if 98 parts cost more than 100 im going to buy a trilogy tactical sf for 109 from av

curly-lol your welcome

well since you dont have any mods now, i suggest to buy and apex barrel, master the trick shots. Stay in the back and work your skill. lol
are you looking for a gun you can shoot strings of paint with? are you trying to go for accuracy? Trying to tie down your opponents with fire to give your teammates and advantage? Depends on how you wanna play. For most the reasons i stated above you will have to drop more money than 100 bucks. Your better off getting another gun for that purpose.

My 98C does 20 BPS consistantly, 22BPS top in this video and the RT is not turned up all the way:
