I am looking at an used Tippman 98 with the cyclone feed upgrade. The gun is an ACT model, and my question is how does the cyclone feed interact with the cyclone. I was under the impression they are both to reduce chop, but does one supersede the other? With the interfere with each other?

Thanks

Do you mean are the ACT and the cyclone compatable?

Yes they are, the ACT is a simple spring mechanism that if the bolt hits a paintball not fully in the chamber, it will not chop it. The cyclone is a force feed system meaning after each shot, it will force a paintball into the chamber. Because of this force feed ACT is not needed. ACT works well with gravity hoppers and agitated hoppers not able to keep up with your rate of fire.

you can potentially end up with a jammed cyclone if you have both the ACT and the cyclone feed...

for instance... your rate of fire is high enough for the cyclone to keep up... but then you fire and the round is not fully in the chamber.... so the ACT engauges... well then the cyclone will still engauge (pushing 2 rounds into the gun)... and could jam the cyclone

just a thought....

Has this actually happened?

I don't think so. When the cyclone forces a ball into the breech, it's using spring pressure, and cannot be clicked again until it's fully loaded a ball.

Try it. Manually load the cyclone with the lever, but stop it from completely loading with your finger. Push the lever again, and see how it can't load another one until it loads the originally jammed ball.

well the actual distance the ball travels to get into the chamber of a 98 with a cyclone feed it great than the dictance of an a-5 or x-7... thats y i've chopped paint at the bolt of my 98...

An oversight on my part. Good call.

Stupid sixty second post rule....:pissed:

I sort of follow what you guys are referring. Are you saying the 98 with cyclone feed is more likely to chop than a5 or 98 with cyclone feed w/ ACT is more likely to chop? I do not imagine that I am 'fast' shooter, probably 8-10 bps, so maybe not an issue?

... 8-10 bps...
Not even close to being a problem.
