i have a 98 custom, i'm pretty new, only 1 year playing. i am a pretty good shot, but I notice a lot of people with stocks or drop-forwards.. what is the difference between the two? is it that much more accurate/comfortable than a setup without either?

most people use a stock when running a remote coil to help steady their shots.
Drop forwards just put the tank alitte more in to make the weight more centered. Some people like extreme drop forwards and people like me like a small drop. I run the regular 98pro dropforward.
Its all about trying them out and seeing what works for you

I'm one of those "extreme drop" guys. However, there is a limit. Not to the size of the drop, but to the application of said drop. If you're running a remote, drops are completely useless. Likewise, if you're running a stock, you should probably be running a remote. So the two are mutually exclusive in most cases.

Here are some examples of the obscene drop forwards I've been using:

well i have both kinds of set ups... its all about your style... i have one 98 i have AK mock'd up. and then i have 2 that are tight set-ups with big drops. i use the one with the stock for big open feilds and the tighter ones for smaller close quarters feilds.

you need to take in acount, your style of play, your feild you play on, and your budget....
