Your friends are idiots. What guns do they have might I ask? Most people with tippys and Piranhas will say that. I have an Xtra and it is great. Never broken down, very accurate, fast, nicely balanced. I would reccomend it to anyone in the market for a blowback.

The xtra is a damn nice blowback.
Personally I found it to be extremely reliable, pretty basic and simple maintenence wise. Only complaint is the anti double feed, but some super glue solved that.

Dont listen to em, Xtra's are great guns.

I'd suggest either a Spyder, one of the WGP BOSS series or a piranha.

All good lines for beginners, if possible get out and try out some different markers, see what you like as your the one who's gotta play with it.

dont listen to your friends, spyders are great markers to start off with. Besides, if they havent used it then how do they know it sucks? Go for the spyder !

I woudn't go with a spyder not very reliable they break down a lot. Not always though im not syaing all spyder's will but if you want a really good dependable gun go for a Model 98. If you have to get a spyder go for the tl or the shutter not the xtra cuz vertical feeds tend to chop paint especially in spyders

You, my friend, do not know what you are talking about. My spyder is reliable and does not break down. No spyder that I have seen has broken down. They only leak if the owner does not take care of it. Now restate what you said. Sure the M98 is a great gun but I don't like it. The stock features arent that great and if you have to fix it, the clamshell design is a pain to fix stuff in. The Xtra does not chop paint. I have no chopped in almost 5 cases. I have put about 14,000 rounds through mine and it has chopped 2 balls. Once when I outfired it without my revy and then once when I forgot to turn the revy on. I actually do perfer vertical feed because it makes the gun extremely balanced.

Get a Piranha or Tippy.

I would defineatly recommend the Spyder TL Plus. Thats what i have and it is amazing. It shoots more accurate than a tippman before its upgraded and has left welts big as quarter on my buddies backs. Its got the rear cocking and the best thing is the rear velocity adjuster. So if you far away from then and your in the open, jsut turn your gun up a little and nail their butt. I wen to Lowpaintballprices.com and i got the gun, 20 oz tank, VL Loader 200 rnd. hopper, squeegie, oil, wrenches, 200 paintballs, 4+1 harness, and JT X-nVader anti fog thermal mask for $203.15 and only $10.00 more for shipping. You can get the warranty for a little more. So go for the Spyder TL PLus. Get it in black cause it looks awsome.

I've owned a tippy and never had a problem with reliability. I found that a tippy was just too long for speedball, which is almost entirely what I play. Now that I have a Black Dragun, I'm much more happy. Vertical feed is far superior to a side feed and faster also. If you are looking in the 150-200 range a Black Dragun E-1 is only 170. It has all the features of the xtra plus a few more like a regulator and snapback cocking, eliminating the need for a beavertail. The final difference is the electronic trigger. The gun can't go full auto and has semi-auto only for the trigger. The trigger pull is also just like clicking a mouse button, it's that light.

You can't just "turn your gun up" because its a safety issue.

Definately go with the spyder. I have owned two in the past, and the are accurate and reliable. I have never owned an xtra but I have heard that they are great. Just get the thing and go tear your friend a new one with it.

I have owned both the Spyder and a Piranha. It was a Spyder Classic and a Piranha Pro Ts. I have also tried a M98 custom. They all are great guns. My suggestion is ask someone at your local field that has one. And tell them that your interested in their gun and may buy one. And you want to try it before you buy it from. Most people i have run across will gladly let you play a game or two. Whatever your decision, have fun.

go with a spyder
if you get a compact
it ll give you a wide selection of upgrades
while you save money ;)
