From punisherspb.com:

The new Proto UL SLG™ includes patented Spool Valve Technology, which allows the gun to operate more consistently at a lower operating pressure, giving you 1500 shots on a 68/4500-air tank. In addition, the new multifunction, self-lubricating Force Button allows clearing the bolt without tools, acts as a cocking mechanism, and prevents unsafe disassembly of the marker when gassed up. The SLG™ comes standard with the new Hyper3™ In-Line Air Regulator featuring higher flow, more consistency, and smoother velocity adjustment. Regular maintenance and cleaning are easy with one-tool-one-screw bolt breakdown. The Proto UL SLG™ consists of solid construction using a hardened steel sear, aluminum body and bolt, and a reinforced polymer frame and trigger. All this adds up to a tournament grade package you can afford.

Proto UL SLG Features:

* Single Piece 11” Proto Barrel
* New Increased Flow Hyper3 In-line Air Regulator
* Anti-chop Break Beam Eye System
* Super Low 145psi Operating Pressure
* Compact and Lightweight Single Tube Body Styling Weighing in at only 2lbs 2oz!
* Proto Dual-Density Injection Sticky Grip
* LED Program Control with Four Tournament Modes
* Composite Ultralite Frame
* All New Self Closing Valve (SCV) 2 Piece Bolt
* Ultralite Aluminum Trigger
* Proto Bottom-Line with Dovetail
* No-Rise Clamping Feed-Neck
* Multifunction Self-Lubricating Force Button
* Bolt Silencer
* Orbital Rotating Sear Reduces Wear

All that for a pretty price of $299.95 from punisherspb.com (http://www.punisherspb.com/proto-matrix-ul-slg-paintball-gun-black.aspx)

Looks nice IMO but even though i'm not a hater of plastic parts i'm just not sure about the plastic UL frame. It's already pretty thin around the hourglass area and i can't help thinking it's going to snap at one nasty dive. Not really liking the price either but give it some time and hopefully it comes down.

How lame, its $300. That was one of the biggest selling points on the SLG for me was that it was only $200.

The body is still aluminum so yes you can get a laser job.

Guh. My brother and I just bought SLG's a few months ago and we heard we won't be able to get a UL frame for ours after the fact. Anyone know about this?

300 i still consider a steal for this. I mean heck Ul's are what a extra 150+ now for 300 your getting a newer designs 200 dollar gun now with UL frame, a aluminum trigger, a nice bottomline, and amazing looking body. Only thing id change is a new barrel and of course new feedneck like a CCM or check it.

I agree with iliveforthis about being a little bit nervous of the frame possibly snapping. IMO there is something about this SLG that just seems like they made it cheaper but put the price up anyways. I honestly think the frame on the SLG was rather nice and this addition of a plastic UL frame is kind of just something added so they can say there is a difference and add $100 to the price tag.

I'm going to play this weekend and I'm going to see if the pro shop has one just for me to hold and try out. The frame on my OG SLG feels pretty sturdy. You can tell that it's not just plastic. The main reason I'm interested in the UL frame is because the stock frame is a little big for my hand, I have kinda small hands.

Meh even though it does have some nice stuff on it i still think $300 is a little much for a gun that uses a sear and has a plastic frame.

Not complaining about the sear but I guess you're right about not having a metal frame. Even all of my spyders have had metal frames.

On the "plastic" though, from what I understand the composite material used in the grip frame is along the lines of ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylonitrile_butadiene_styrene)) infused with fiberglass strands. If that is true, it should be pretty damn tough. Our hoppers have been just plain old plastic for years and they get shot just about more than anything and nobody complains about them.

Not necessarily true, hopper shells break all the time (Halo's especially) My old piranha had a plastic frame and it definitely was one of the most comfortable things I've ever held, but I still think that a frame should be metal just for long term durability. I have seen plastic frames break on a spyder before though, granted it was because it was a cold day and he was shooting a lot of CO2 through the gun and then dropped it, but its still possible. I really have no problem with the structural capabilities of plastics but IMO I would just prefer a metal frame.

Yeah like i said before i'm not a hater of plastic. I personally love the feel of the OG SLG frame as well as the PMR's. Heck my SP1's frame is made out of the same stuff as far as i know and i love it as well and it seems very strong. I'm just saying with the amount of used high-ends out there now and with the Mini only $25 and G3 only a $100 more i wouldn't want to pay $300 for gun that has a sear and a plastic frame.

Shortly or at least at Cup.

With how its been going lately with the DM9 coming out and now the SLG a few weeks later the PMR should definitely be out before Cup. Did they actually change anything on the PMR or is just the same thing with a UL on it? Oh well, I think dye did a good job with the DM9 wouldn't want them to overdo themselves people are afraid of change....

It's basically an SE with a UL frame and a on/off ASA i think. I hope they save some stuff for cup though, it's strange enough for Dye to release the DM9 so early and Proto to release this new SLG.

Where's the PM9?? That's my question.

iliveforthis99
10-01-2008, 06:25 PM
I've heard some speculation there might not be one because of the possible cost of the new PMR. There also haven't been any news or teasers of it unlike in the past. So either there will be no PM9 or Proto is waiting for the last second or Cup.
