I have played paintball for 7 years and am just getting back into the sport after a two year break. I play tournys and am on a very respectable amatuer team. I went to my local field to play walkons just to get back into it kind of as a refresher. I was also a ref and a airsmith at a local field a few years back. Almost everyone their had a gun that cost a 1000+. Nothin wrong with that i like seeing people invest money in our sport(it drops the prices:) Most of the people their except for about 7 out of a 100 people had only played for a year or less. When i was a ref we sorted out teams by guns and amount of players. At that time normally a good gun represented at least some experiance. So teams were normally fairly even but not always. What ended up happening this weekend was that about 5 of the experianced guys were on a team and wanted to play together so the ref saw that as fine because he thought everyone was a veteran because they all shot angels and cockers. Then the rest of us with all equal fire power got divded up. Teams had a even number of players and fire power so teams seemed fairly even. One team completly dominated the other all day long. The refs never fixed the teams because all they saw was equal i think we won one game out of twelve. The other team kept arguing the teams were even because of numbers even thought they wernt the refs had friends on that team :(. Well it kind of took away from the fun being the last man standing every game being the only experianced player on my team and getting lit up by 10 guys. All and all i still had a good time though. Your gun doesnt make you good your talent and experiace and physical ability does. Yes of course a tippmann compared to a angel is but if all players have nice equipment the refs need to sort by skill not gun. Id say most sports are like 10% equipment and 90% skill paintball is more like 30% equipment and 70% skill but truly skill does matter not how many bps your marker can lay out. Im not gonna mention the name of the field in washington splat... you gotta guess the rest. I still like the field and the players and the employees higher up that work at the proshop their but im not gonna play thier anymore if this countinues to happen whether im on the winning or loosing team.

The field I work at, all the veterans use either stock class pumps or something pretty close to that, stuff that a newbie wouldn't want to touch. This makes it pretty easy for us to divide teams, but we still even them out one or two times during the day. Also, just a reminder that the gun you use doesn't matter all that much. We were having 2vs2 staff games after a day of walk-ons and my gun's spring decided to go out on me and I was forced to use the rental m98's. I managed to bunker the field owner twice who was using his tricked out Automag RT.

Remeber that you are the customer. If you don't like something, speak up. If they don't respond, do something about it, such as: coerce your team to refuse to play the other team. Go with all your guys to another play area (i'm hoping there is more than one course at the field) and split up your guys and have fun.

You drove down to the field, you payed for paint and air, you payed the field fee. You're paying to have fun. If you're not because of staff, you MUST do something about it. Hopefully things work out better in the future.

Well keep in mind even if your loosing it still seems like ur a pansey if you complain about unfair teams. Plus he is exsperienced and thats something only newbies do.

At the field where i Ref if one team is really beating the other consistently we change out a few people are stack the teams a little. The idea is for everyone that pays money to play paintball has fun, and it's definently not fun when you lose all day long. Granted if one team really really sucks there's only so much help a ref can give.
