Well, I am not so sure about whether or not this is in the right thread so please don't pwn my *** if it is. I am going to review for you all today the Brass Eagle T-Storm paintball marker package.
For many of us paintball fanatics out there, one thing is always on our mind off the field, and that is what our first paintball gun will be. Theres a lot of brands and types of guns ranging from customizable Tippmans and BTs to the Spyder pro line and milisim to the higher up Angel professional sport markers and others in such leagues. However, one thing in particular separates most players from the marker of their desiring. Cost.
Paintballing is a fun and active sport, but it can cost a lot. One thing that is always on the minds of a casual player of the sport is owning their own marker rather than renting (which at a few arenas can end up saving some of your dough to waste elsewhere). However, low end markers may not even be what your after in particular and higher end markers aren't worth the waste of cash. And thats not even getting into all the custom options that you can get like sight rails, lights, stocks, scopes, fake mags, and gas systems. Forget all the custom doohickeys you wanna place on there to make it look more like a gun you would prefer to use in real life. Fact of the matter is, now you have to get goggles, CO2 tanks, cleaning devices for barrels, and barrel covers (condoms for some). The problem is trying to find something cheap and decent to get you out in the field and playing rather than having to run around and shop for the basic stuff to find cheaper prices. Sometimes paintball stores offer these options, but rarely are they going to be exactly what your looking for, and I can almost guarantee that few of them are decent for around $100.
Some other stores such as Walmart and Canadian Tire offer marker packages, but these are toys in comparison and your only really lucky if the store manages to carry Tippman 98 custom packages. But if you have been looking at these racks of paintball armaments, perhaps you should look closer next time.
Enter the T-Storm from Brass Eagle
For around $105 Canadian taxes included (13% GST+PST), this little marker package might not have everything your looking for immediately, but it will get you going and out playing. The package includes the marker, barrel, mask, barrel cleaner and hopper.
From a first glance this gun has everything that would make a milisim lover have a look back. For starters, the gun is black and utilizes a lot of plastics and polymers. This makes for a small weight to it. I was quite surprised when I picked the gun up as to its weight.
A second bit is that the pistol grip and the gas tank inlet are in line and made together from start (much in the same way the Spyder markers do *wink*). Another thing was the double-trigger.
Double triggers can be excellent if you want them and having a double trigger pre-installed by the manufacture is a bonus.
Additionally, the pistol grip is made out of a soft feeling polymer that is very sleek. Another sweet thing is there is a fore grip at the front of the marker and the weaver rails on top. Now don't get too excited yet. The rails on these markers aren't really great and I have not tried to mount something on them yet (maybe room for some experimentation later). Another impressive item was the cocking handle which is in the top of the marker (which makes for some rather sic appearances and possibly makes for some rather interesting experimentation at a later time). The only draw back with a top cocking bolt is that it gets in the way of the weaver style rails on the top and reduces the ability to add on different parts to the rail. Also, the elbow for the marker wasn't made with enough clearance for room to mount stuff on the rails and you can't really get a hacksaw and adjust it to do so. In other words, the rails are there, but two things are blocking you from fully utilizing it, the cocking handle and marker elbow. Beyond that the only real reason to get one is for the mask.
Sidenote here:
If your going to get some decent play out of this marker, you need to buy yourself a better barrel. I purchased a specialty marker barrel from a paintball shop. The SmartParts 20" Tactical Rifled (Spyder threads). This is a great addition to your already amazing looking gun. Not only is it a better barrel than the stock barrel offered (it looks like a can really), it is very accurate and looks great. I actually played with this gun and I can tell you for sure, this thing had excellent range and accuracy. There were numerous occasions where I'd be shooting at a person while in gameplay at around 100 or so meters (300 feet for all the imperialist people out there), and place a good 20 rounds in 2 seconds on a 1 square foot target area (however the paintballs breaking on the target was another issue all to itself).
The only thing that really got to me was the issue where the gun would be shot, no paintball would come out (because I was out or on an angle), and the bolt wouldn't lock back in place and just ramp there until it lost momentum. I'm not sure whether it was low CO2, no paintballs, the barrel or a combination of them, but I will investigate this further and repost as soon as I do.
Hope you enjoyed this review. Feed back would be accepted.
