I have played the sport for a year or two off and on but now i want to actually own a gun and not use the tippman 98. Anyways i was leaning toward the g3 and i wanted to know if u think it is a good gun for me.

We can't really tell what gun is good for you, a lot of that is based on personal preference. Pretty much, we can tell you how it compares purely on performance, but things such as feel, layout, stock parts, etc. can and should all affect your ultimate decision. You don't want to pick up a gun because of performance, only to have it feel really awkward and hamper your performance.
I would suggest going out and holding one to see if you are comfortable with it. Because of the size of the marker, this is especially important, in case your hands don't fit to the marker. Also, look at www.dangerouspower.com (http://www.dangerouspower.com) for some of the performance aspects, as well as the review section here to see what others think of the gun (take all reviews with a grain of salt).

Really the only downsides I see to the G3 are the fact that it's not terribly efficient, and that I hated the stock trigger. Mind you, "efficient" is a relative term here, because it'll shoot way more on a tank than something like a Tippmann would, but don't expect to be able to compete with a nicely tuned Cocker or Bob Long Vice in the efficiency department. And as for the trigger: it's perfectly usable, I just found the feel of it to be distasteful.
Take a look around and try to hold on (shoot it if you can get the chance). And look around at the competing bracket too. In a similar price/performance bracket, you'll also be looking at the Invert Mini and the Proto SLG. A couple of guys on my team have Mini's, and they're quite nice. MUCH nicer trigger than what you get with a G3. Quieter too; on the order of volume you'd get from a Cocker. But the G3 is a much simpler design, and has fewer parts to go wrong.
It's really about personal preference, which is why you've gotta hold one. If there were a Mini, an SLG, and a G3 sitting on the bench, and I had to pick one up to play, I'd probably pick up either the Mini or the G3.

you should look at a 07 proto rail or proto slg. they are around the same price and just as good performance wise

The only complaint I have about the SLG is that it just feels lifeless. You shoot something like an Autococker, and it gives you a sense of occasion. A feeling like something special is happening. With the Proto, all you get is the sight of a ball traveling down range. It feels like a tool rather than an instrument of passion. My G3 is no Cocker in the passion department, but at least got some heart.
The Proto does a great job of putting paint down range where you want it, I just don't care for the feel.

I've had a G3 and an F8 and a Threshold. I'd go back to the F8 given a choice. I know it's not the new kid but it's a great marker. Like said above, you should try what you think you want before buying. I could have saved a lot of $ just asking someone at the field if I could try their marker.
