A friend of mine just bought the a5 e-grip with selector switch (hall effect). We haven't taken it apart yet to see so I was wondering if a board from an original egrip will work in the new grip. I'm guessing the answer will be no because of something to do with the selector switch. Am I right?

I would agree with your assumptions, have no personal idea though.

I highly doubt it. If I'm not mistaken, the select fire board is very similar the the X-7 select fire board. If this is indeed the case, then it won't fit, because the two boards are completely different.
However, there's a slim chance that Tippmann has some residual milling in the grip intended for the original board. If you can open the grip and take a picture for us, we can tell you for sure what kind of board will fit.
EDIT:
Looking at the thing, it appears to be nothing more than a modified X-7 Egrip. The angular M16 grip looks too narrow at the front to accommodate an A-5/98C board. I think it's an X-7 grip with a modified top end so that it bolts to an A-5.

yes, i am about 98.7% positive that the boards are not interchangeable

Thanks guys, that's what I figured. Just wondering because my buddy got one and he was wanting to put his old rampage in it. I'll let him know it won't work. Is APE making a board for the a5 with the HA grip yet? Wonder if a x7 board would work?

I'm thinking that there's a decent chance that the X-7 board would work, but I'd call APE and ask them first. The only thing I'd be worried about is the solenoid placement, which I believe is hard mounted to the board.
