Hey everyone. I'm a new paintballer looking to buy a marker and gear, since I have nothing at the moment.

I have a budget of about $400ish.

I play both speedball and woodsball.

What I'm mainly looking for in a marker is speed and accuracy. Also that is easy to maintain, fairly cheap, reliable, and of course upgradeable. So I can add onto it when I get more money.

I am open to used gear, but I prefer new.

I've learned through person experience that masks play a huge role and I don't want my mask fogging up on me,like with rentals.

Any help will be much appericated.Thanks.

The Smart Parts Ion is a perfect gun for a beginner.
Its all that you have described: easy to maintain, reliable, and deffidently upgradable. The Ion is one of the most customizable mid-range markers out there. Its relatively cheap too.

Then, spend some money on a good mask, perhaps Dye I3 or I4. Its mostly about what YOU perfer. Try some on at a local paintball shop.

Next, look for a hopper. With the Ion you don't need an extraordinary hopper to "do work". Because it caps at about 17 BPS, you could look at Spyder Fasta 18V or Viewloader eVLution 2 or 3.

Lastly, use your left-over money to buy gear such as pants or gloves. Also, you could use this money to upgrade your new Ion (AFTER you have used it once or twice and found out what you don't like).
