Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone have a guide on cleaning and taking care of the A5 (like what to lube, opening the A5 to clean or lube, what sequence should I do it, etc.).

I've also saw some greases and lube at techt, do you recommend these or there's better out there?

Thank you people for this great community here at pbreview.com

cleaning depends on you. Personally cleaning doesnt take that long so clean it after everyday of play. I ussually play saturdays so I clean it sunday. You probably wont have any problems with TechT lube at all. I have no clue how to take an A5 apart so cant help you there.

Ok. I never lubed anything (yeah, big problem here). What will I want to lube? I'm planing on moding so I'll check back with the mod, but right now with the stock, what should I lube/grease and how much?

Thanks!

All you need to do is put a few drops of marker oil (should have come with your marker, if not it can be had for a couple bucks. I use gold cup, but any should do) in the ASA before you put your air tank on, remove the barrel, and fire it 10-20 times. This will distribute the oil through the marker, and keep your o-rings from drying out.

o-ring?

Ok, that's all I need to do? There is no other parts to lube or grease (I heard cyclone somewhere). If I understand well, what you just told me is like the "everyday" tune-up like to do before each match, which is a good thing to know (and thanks by the way!). Now, isn't there a tune-up that would be great to do each x months or each years during the off season where it require more "expertise"? I'm very skilled in those kind of stuff, just need to know what I must do (already took my A5 appart and rebuild it, but I didn't really understood what was suppose to be cleaned).

Thanks

lube the cyclone ratchet

lube the front bolt o ring and the rear bolt

lube the surface of the two shells where the rear bolt slides against

lube inside your ASA as previously mentioned

Consult your manual for disassembly. I havent taken apart an A-5 in years and use a 98c now, so someone who is more experienced may have some more things to add. Rule of thumb is all orings should get adequate lube.

Ah good to know all that. I bet the tune-up for vortez mod and all the mods are in the manual that come with it

Make sure you use a water based oil lube and not a petroleum based lube. Like a condom petroleum based lube will have a chemical reaction with the latex rubber O-rings which will cause it to decay and weaken faster causing them to break. You don't want those breaking because nobody likes unexpected surprises.

Shadow, you have to go stand over there by yourself for a while. That was bad, even for my taste.

But yeah, Hummer's right: grease on the Cyclone. Something silicon or lithium bases will do nicely.

ok, well for the grease and lub, I'll buy those from techt since I'm already buying upgrades from them and it seems to be good quality stuff.

Thanks a lot for all those infos guys, I'm new in the community of this forums, but so far, having the best experience!

When lubing/greasing, is there a possibility of over lubing/greasing?

Yeah, but Tippmanns tend to just expel what they don't need. You want a light to moderate coating; nothing too heavy. With the Cyclone, it's pretty hard to over-lube, but don't go crazy. For example: don't pack the ratchet chamber with lube, just make sure the axle has a good coating.

ok thanks, I'll check with the assembly package to be sure of every part that was specified in the thread (some word I'm not sure of there french meaning but since my booklet is english, won't be a prob)

thanks for the vid, no need to check what pieces is what in my book to be sure of my translation. It also guided me to use that youtube for searching specific video like cyclone maintenance. Good call, I should have though of that.

Thanks again

i have a question about actually cleaning the A-5.

i just played a game last night and i got paint and crap all over my A-5 so can i just use a wet cloth and wash it down or is their any special procedure i should do?

A wet cloth will work fine. When I take mine apart to clean it, I actually keep a bucket full of water right next to me. As I take a part off, I just drop it in the bucket (as long as it's not the E-grip, of course).

The sooner you clean it, the less likely it is to stain and the easier it is to get off.
