Anyone whose ever played a game with me knows that a pistol doesn't exactly fit into my style of play. I had one in particular for a while, it only ever got used on three occasions in an actual game. The first two times were organized games where we got a few pistol owners together for some sidearm-only action. The third was was during a scenario game where I actually needed it for it's intended purpose: as a backup. I pulled the trigger once; the gun chopped the ball and jammed to the point where it needed disassembly to work again.
Suffice to say: I'm not a big pistol fan. It doesn't even matter what kind of pistol, either. I've owned or used every type out there from the mini Spyder clones to the Tiberius markers. At one point, I'd had three of them in my possession, but I'm now very proud to say that they are all either sold off or parted out for more meaningful (read: cooler) applications.
So if I've learned my lesson, then why do I keep looking at the new Tippmann TPX like it's something I actually want? I keep thinking, "Y'know, it's actually got some pretty neat features on there", and I have to give myself a mental smack in the forehead to remind myself of how much I would hate acutally using it. It's like a secret love affair: I know it's wrong, but I still want it.
So my question is this: am I the only one whose brain has been betraying them, or is pining for this thing a common occurrance?

As pistols go I'd say it's appears to be one of the best of the bunch. It might even be worth the wait and hype. If it doesn't fit your style of play though, you know you should probably lay off. It might not be too bad for playing walk-on with renters though.
I'd at least wait until it gets out in the market place and we see if it lives up to expectations.
I've actually considered unloading my PGP here in the last few days, but I can't bring myself to do it. God knows when the last time I played with it was, but for some reason I'm attached to it.

I'd hang on to that PGP. I find myself reaching for my old Nelson style pump all the time. In fact, that's why I got rid of the pistols. I started using the pump as a backup in big games and during sidearm-only games.
But I've been getting emails from everybody and their cousin about the TPX. That's why I keep looking at the specs with that "hmm..." expression before I come back to the real world.
Actually, it'd be a lot like my other Tippmann. My A-5 is pretty cool and has a couple neat features, but I never use it and I paid too much for it.

My plan is pretty much to use the PGP as potential trade bait for a better/cooler Sniper. Hence why I'm on the fence about it. I'm wouldn't really losing the ability to play pump, I've never had any use for a side arm, and for SC play the PGP ain't the best thing going.

I have to admit that I keep looking at it. I wouldn't be getting it as a backup though, it'd be for those times I feel like playing light and crazy.
The TPX has a couple things going for it that others don't - I like that the paint is in the handle like the Tac8, but that the air is separate. I really like the fact that you can use a remote - I know a remote and a pistol seems goofy, but part of why I never went pistol is that I don't want to have to buy 12 grams. It's the same reason I never went stock class pump. If everyone at the field was doing it, then I would, but when I pull out my Hammer, I'm still playing against people using their semis. Playing pump vs. semis is tricky enough, playing stock class against semis would be suicide.
Can I justify buying yet another marker? No. But I do still keep looking.

It does sound cool with a lot of features, but like you said, it'll cost a lot and not ever get used unless you plan on finding and playing pistol only games or you want to show off. Carrying an extra 100 round pod on your side would take as much space as your new pistol that only has a few back up rounds.

I ended up with a RAP4 Pistol for some time and got some good use out of it as well as it saved me on several occasions but it was feeling a bit big and bulky. After awhile I carried it less and less due it being bulky and I am cutting down the the amount of gear I pack (still is way too much). I ended up trading off the pistol recently for some needed equipment and I will end up getting the TPX as its more compact and I got an excellent deal on it. It probably won't see much use but when needed pistols are handy and they do make for some fun when you only use a pistol.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the very same chunk of aluminum that I only ever actually needed once, and it jammed on me.

Regardless of how much use you get out of it, and regardless of how unlikely I (and quite a few of us it seems, which allows for the potential use of "we" here) am (or "are", as the case may be) to actually buy one, I expect a full review citing everything that's good, great, cool, annoying, useless, and wrong with it.
I'm pretty sure that last sentence is technically grammatically correct.
The point being: even if you don't use it, I expect someone at your local field to be confused as to why there is a man tactically rolling from one bunker to another in the pouring rain when everyone else has had the sense to declare beer-thirty several hours ago.

It is, it worked well when I needed it and a vital position was held to the last part of a game when my primary was completely out of paint. Though I don't normally mind bulky guns, the pistol was a little too bulky.
I expect a full review citing everything that's good, great, cool, annoying, useless, and wrong with it.
I can do that since I tend to break things early on. I got the T68 Gen4 about a month before everyone else did and did some continuous reviews while breaking different parts of it.

Tactical rolling, what movies are you watching? There won't be just 1 person, entire teams will still be out in the pouring rain. Rain don't stop us and if your a really good player, you can shoot with one hand and drink beer with the other :D. Our field is a little private as its the backyard of a Teammate. It is a field though and a nice one at that.

Man, I need to visit Oregon. People down here pack it in if the grass is too wet because the dew was too heavy this morning.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a pump or a pistol to help me hone my movement skills a little. In all reality, I'm not fully satisfied with any design out there. I really want a marker that I can put a 14/3000 bottle on, is clip fed, has a closed bolt and is a pump. Seeing as that combination is improbable I may end up settling on a TPX. For me, the reviews are what will make or break this thing. If the new drivetrain makes sense, and if it's not to hard to do basic maintenance on it, then I am far more likely to buy one.

From what I can gather, the TPX is a variant of the Tiberius design. And if it is indeed based on the Tiberius regulated valve, then there is no reason why it won't be a great marker. It looks like Tippmann has taken a Tac 8, pulled it apart, and moved things around and added a few things to eliminate what they didn't like about it. I'm quite fond of the way a Tiberius shoots, but I've never been fond of having the air supply and the ammo linked together in the clip.

Well then keep a look out. One day you're gonna be at the field, and a car that looks like KITT from Night Rider is gonna pull up in the parking lot, a largeish white guy is gonna get out wearing a cowboy hat and at least three different patterns of camo, and he's going to drag out two very large rolling boxes of gear. When this set of events comes true, you know I'll have arrived.

Do you like night games too?
I'll send the address to Shrek and Fiona's Swamp so you don't get lost.
We will be awaiting your arrival, we have HPA (4500), Co2 fills, inexpensive quality paintballs, or BYOP. I recommend having a mask with a thermal lens minimum with a fan.

I'm both a MilSim guy, and a Tippmann freak, so I couldn't not put in a preorder for the TPX. I will for sure be putting up a full review of it when it gets here. I got on preorder the TPX, a total of 4 clips, and a leg holster. Can't wait to write up that review rather than being on the sidelines reading about it for once, haha.
Corrupted and everyone else that said they wanted a review. I got to field test one today and i really enjoyed it. I posted a review on this website so go take a look. Feel free to leave a comment if i missed something out and ill try to answer the best i can.

I'm not surprised it shoots well. Puncturing the cartridge with a trigger pull seems like it could be tedious, but it it makes sense. I'm just not sure how I feel about that. I was pretty fond of the lever system that came with a Delta-68.
But regardless, good review. For those too lazy to look it up, here's the link:
http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/6087/
personally... i didnt think it was tedious at all. It kinda like cocking it in a way. Pull the trigger to load (pierce the 12gram) next trigger squeeze fires. Its not harder to pull the trigger to puncture, its the exact same. But, then again, i guess its all personal preference. Thanks for reading it :)
