Once you call your gun by name and worship it as a demi-god :D

It varies from person to person, but IMO, Your not a newbie when...
1. You no longer need other people's help, and can solve most of your problems on your own.
2. You have 'adopted' a bunch of first timers and are teaching them 'the ways'.
3. People you once considered to be great players ask you for advice or an Idea.
4. People look up to you as a player and a person on the field.
If you have obtained these things, then I would no longer consider you a newbie, but thats just me.:D

Actually, MiceWheels.... those are some rather good insights.
My official definition of non-newbie is "The skill or level reached when a player feels personal confidence, has gained knowledge about the game, about his marker, and about his fellow players, and when the player no longer is hesitant to risk the odds to win the game"

When you feel that you are no longer a beginner

i think they are no longer a newbie when they have played enough to see paintball for the strategy game that it is and not just shooting your friends. when you have understanding of communication, angles, and are some what agressive (don't just sit in the very back behind a bunker the whole game). and when they have a fair amount of knowledge about products on the market and what they do . . .

when you whoop everybodies butt at the field :D
when you can make big moves that change the out come of the game.
when you shoot out the best players on the other team.
when you play aggressively with confidence but also wisely

Hmmm... I dunno if I'm a newbie or not.
Some people help me with stuff that is so easy, but I never ask them to and I am afraid to tell them not to help me. So I just let them.
On the field I can go off by myself. At our field we play "defend and attack", it's quite a large area, about 75% of it is wooded, the rest are speedball field. One team gets an area/bunker/fort to defend, and cannot leave a certain perimeter (normally about 40 feet from the bunker or fort or whatever, main base). They get one person to go off wherever he/she wishes (called the freebie), to sneak up behind the attacking enemy, whatever. Whenever I am the attacking team, I take myself and a friend or someone I know to be a good/decent player, and we go hunting for the freebie. Every time we have gotten them. Most of the time it's me that gets them out (90% of teh time) and we've never gotten out. When on the defending, I'm normally the freebie. I get at least 2 or 3 enemy players out before I either get tagged or put down behind a bunker where I can't move.
I know my gun inside out, I know a lot (more than other ppl that have been in the sport teh same time as me anyways) about other guns, tactics, etc. For some reason it seems I am a natural at paintball. My 2nd time going I was kicking azz, even with the rental tippman 98 with stock barrel and regular hopper. :D
Most days I get out about 15-20 ppl, a couple a game. I love lighting up newbies, hehe it's fun.
I also enjoy bunkering people, it gives me a rush. Sometimes when it's only me on my team, and one other person on the other team, I get them running and chase them around the speedball field
Would you guys consider me a newbie still?????
When you can fix your gear, help others out on the team and offer insight to there questions.

Never... your always a newbie to someone. :)
Serriously..... for me, it's when someone demonstrates it. That could be your first day on the field, or may never happen. Not just skill, but attitude.

I say when you DON'T know how many games you have played anymore, how many shots you have taken or how many guys you have gotten out while you have played paintball... You just go to play paintball.:D
(note: when someone asks you a question like the ones i said above, you just give some vague number and go play

Newbie is a frame of mind. It's an idea used to label yourselves and label others. You are no longer a newbie when people stop calling you "the newbie with the X" (where X is your marker). Notice X has nothing to do with being a newbie. I see plenty of newbies wielding angels.
Personally, I always call myself a newbie when I get to a feild. When I eliminate 5 players in one game, I call it beginner's luck. :P
I agree with Ladiesman. Everyone has there own defintion of newbie, if you think your a newbie guess what, You are! If you can beat most newbies, your probably a novice.

Well, I agree with ladiesman and AK-47.....but I personnely think that after you buy your second marker after your first one wears out you are no longer considered a newbie to the sport
