 Is a response trigger for the Tippmann X-7 worth the money? Is $85 to much or is that close to what retail is?

Yes, its worth it but not for that price, try finding one on Ebay or a forum.
I have one for my 98C, its nice although the RT's generally work better (higher rates of fire) in 98C's than A5's or X7's.
Check at your local field though to see if they are even allowed first.

I picked up a R/T for my A-5 for $55. Granted, this was years ago, but $85 still seems way too high.
If you get a chance, try to borrow someone's R/T'd Tippmann. The Response Trigger is the kind of thing that you either love or it annoys you.

you could have bought it with your x7 for 350

That's kind of moot at this point if he's already bought the marker.

85 US does seem high, thats about the price they go for here in canada and our prices are quite a bit higher here, i voted yes but that was before i realised you were in the us. for tippmann markers i love RT its a awesome innovative design by tippmann and works very well and allows you to keep the marker fully mechanical. on my bt markers I use egrip because even if I installed a RT i loose the fully mechanical since i use a electronic rip clip anyways, both have pros and conns however so until you use one yourself its hard to choose. on a tippmann i always prefer a RT however.

I asked Tippmann and the reply was "Around 80 dollars retail"

I bought mine yesterday at a local shop for $64.95 plus tax. I agree with the others that $80 is too much.

use RT on customs only, unless you enjoy feeding two different things, cyclone and RT, kiss your air goodbye
Actually, we've proven that the cyclone does not use any excess air that a Tippmann valve would not normally have wasted anyway.

Ok I went and played yesterday with my X7 RT. All I can say is wow. Definitely worth the money! Great for bursts of 2 to 6 balls. Installation and set up requires you take the marker completely apartamd if you haven't done so already its a good learning experience.
Once installed, tuning it is very easy just simply turn a screw. The only drawback to this product and practically every other Tippmann product is the instructions. There are no pictures just diagrams to guide you along and it jumps around because there are 3 different languages on one instruction sheet. Other than this its a great product and I would highly recommend it, just not at $80 a pop. Hope that helps!

Once you get used to it any your finger gets more practiced, you'll be able to hold much longer bursts than just a few shots. When I was using it all the time, I was able to blow an entire hopper at 16 bps without a hiccup.

I can easily shoot though 3 hoppers continuously at a consistent 20BPS with 22BPS spikes but I don't do that much unless its the final game of the day, usually the last couple minutes since my hopper is currently 450 rounds (soon to be 1,100 rounds). It can be a little expensive but its also a great stress reliever :devil2:.
