So I have been playing paintball for a while, and since I am in the Army I wanted to by a gun that feels like the one I use already. And the one that the Army has sanctioned feels like the best bet.

My question is which one is the best? And are they worth it?

They are all the same internally (same as the 98 custom). The Alpha Black tactical is the same as the basic, but has the stock and the shroud. The new Project Salvo, I think is the same internals, but has different shroud, and stock (which is a folding stock).

The Alpha Black Tactical is probably the most realistic feeling marker. I still like mine. You might be able to get one used for cheap. But it's worth it to me. So far, (after more than a year and more than 5 cases shot) it has served me well. Read some reviews and you decide.

One thing the Project Salvo has that the ABT doesn't is the ability to accept the 98C R/T. This doesn't matter if you are planning on getting an e-grip, but I think one thing that Tippmann does well is the all-mechanical marker. Take a Project Salvo, add a cyclone and an R/T, and you have a fully mechanical marker that looks realistic and gets a decent rate of fire.

or there is always the process of modifing a 98 or a5 or the already realistic X7 to your likeing cause the those three markers each have lots of body kits and modifcations that can make your gun be as relsitic as you want but with those army markers they can have only that one body kit

I don't know if you have made your purchase yet, but I can offer my input...

I am in the same position as you. I am in the Army, and wanted to stick with something that felt familiar. I went with the Army Tactical Black, and couldn't be happier! I found that I had range all over the field (100 yds x 50 yds). I had the weapon that everyone wanted to take a turn with, and added with the 3-point sling, the only thing that wasn't realistic was the weight. (you and I know a real M-4 is so much heavier! LOL!)

The sighting is a little bit difficult because of the wearing of a mask, but it is definitely accurate. I am looking to get a bit of a longer barrel, and maybe eek out a little more accuracy out of it...but I need to chat with the experts to find out if a longer barrel will truly help me out.

In short, from my opinion, you can't go wrong with the ATB if you are looking for a genuine mil-sim marker.

hey a longer barrel might help with aiming the gun but could deminsih the accuracy and longer barrels also make it harder to use in CQB so remeber longer the barrel more firiction but shorter less time for the fps to reach its top end with some accuracey

also if you like the m82 they make a kit for the 98 and A5 to make it look ideantical also check out the x7 it is made to look like relistic guns from the m4 to ump you got the most realistic guns in one
also the m4 was never shooting 30rps and i really never noticed the weight difference in the guns cause i have held both the m4 and the alpha black not really a difference.
