New here, hope I've read and learned enough to not piss anyone off too much with this post but...

OK, I need a smaller bore barrel for a trilogy, the stock barrel is fine (as far as I can tell) but too big for most paint. I've pretty much decided on a deadlywind with some freak inserts but i'm having trouble deciding between 14" and 16." I love the look of the 16" but would be unwilling to sacrifice the efficiency/perfomance/accuracy of the shorter barrel (if there really is that great a difference.) I've heard that after eight inches (in a high pressure setup) your ball has reached full speed and too much barrel length after that just interferes with flight, I've also heard that barrels with control bores don't touch the paint after the insert/barrel back anyway. Has anyone had experience with both the 14" and 16" versions of the same barrel on a high pressure gun? Is there much difference? If the 16" would work better on a low pressure setup would it be possible to run the trilly on LP?

Also, where are all you guys playing paintball where it is forty degrees one mintue and eighty the next and your aluminum inserts are expanding/contracting in your barrel causing your paint match to go from perfect to over/under bored?

I mean sure there are temp fluctuations during the day but has anyone actually experienced this phenomenon because any time you bring up aluminum inserts some one will ALWAYS talk about this as if it is a major problem.

And how long are the freak inserts? They appear (internet shopping only, I'm pretty remote) to be about four-five inches, shouldn't they be eight for maximum effiecency? Are there any barrels that have eight inch inserts?

Any info/anecdotes would be appreciated.

theres no noticable diffenerance between 14 and 16 other then maybe sound signature. just get what you feel more comfortable with; Longer = easier to aim and slightly quieter, Shorter = easier to move around with and better for hiding behind solid cover (wood, barrels, hyperpipe, pallets).

The freak inserts are 5" iirc. you wont notice the diffenence from a 5" to say an 8" control bore.

Killertip212, sometimes it seems like you're the only one that cares:)

Thanks for the info.
