View Full Version : Why I will never buy another Brass Eagle product (true story)

So about six months ago I'm looking for a paintball gun. I'd never owned one before, and didn't know what to look for. I saw the Brass Eagle Raptor at Gart Sports and decided I wanted to buy it because it was a semi, and all chrome. Looked good on the outside, but not great on the inside.

The first time I used this gun it worked great. It shot accurate and it shot hard. Then a ball broke. Maybe my 20th shot. I cleaned the gun, put it away.

About a month later my dad asked me to shoot some squirrel nests out of the trees because they were making a mess all over our lawn. I thought 'heh, good target practice' because these nests were at the top of large oak trees. So I'm going to town on these squirrel nests, take one down, then go for the larger and much higher one. Just going to down *thwap thwap thwap*. My neighbor comes across the street and watches, thoroughly impressed.

Then something goes wrong. CO2 and paint start spewing out the end of the gun. Damn thing is shooting and sounding like an automatic on crack. I look at the gun, perplexed. I clean it, load back up the paint and the CO2, try again - same thing happens. At this point I thought something is seriously wrong. I clean it, and put it away.

The next day I take it to Warpaint, a local indoor paintball place owned by Warpig. They take a look at it, explain to me that one of the cocking mechanisms is broken and that it's a manufacturing defect. I ask them if they carry any parts for the Raptor. They tell me that they don't carry any parts and no one else around does because "Brass Eagle sucks." I ask them why and they say because they are very high maintenance and break often.

I talk to Gart Sports, they say they won't accept the gun back because it's been used and opened. I consult the warranty to find I cannot recieve my money back for the Raptor, Brass Eagle will only replace it with the same gun. I decide not to replace my gun with a new Raptor because it will probably only break again. End of story. Don't buy Brass Eagle unless you have money to waste, because why buy a Brass Eagle when you could have spent your money better on something more durable.

Read my review of the Brass Eagle Silver Raptor Here. It is done under the name of John "JawPaul" Lane.
The raptor is not a newbie marker it is a machinist marker. Because I have had to machine & make some parts for it myself. If you buy a raptor you should know alot about how paint markers work so you can know what to fix and how to fix it.
I am sorry to hear about your bad expeirence with your brass eagle marker. Some have better luck some have worse. When I first got mine I was mad because of its two main problems but, once I spent some time and energy learning and researching I found out how to fix it myself and stop those problems from re-occuring which I did do. It imeaditaly made me not hate my marker anymore.

with other markers you would not necessarily have to know how to do this..

Well, It's hard to defend Brass Eagle, but they do make some good stuff.

The reason everything is so cheap is because they take a good concept and slap it together with whatever is around. In the case of the raptor, they do use good materials but the manufacturing isn't too good.

I've had my marker for 2 years, and it still works exceptionally well. Mine was in good condition without any major flaws, except the powerfeed was welded messily to the reciever and there is a gap at one part.

After I played my first game with it I put down a couple sheets of newspaper and stripped it down. There were little bits of metal from its machining on the bolt area. I washed the bolt off and cleaned up the internals, and then I put some nailgun oil inside of it. I should have done this at first, but I was lucky. Now I know that I should take it apart every time I play and check everything. I'm really happy with my marker, I feel that it was made better than the majority of raptors.

With BE buying JT i'd imagine they might incorporate some stuff from the excelerator 3.0/4.0 series on their higher end markers. Hopefully they'll improve.

I just hope VL and JT dont take a dump, cause their stuff rocks at the moment.

Be has taken notes from JT markers. They made the Avenger out of a JT concept. Thats why the Avenger is such a good gun.

I can tell you right now, brass eagle makes NO GOOD GUNS!! Not even the rainmaker, because all that thing does is break paint. The avenger is not a good gun. It sux. The Raptor is not a complicated gun, it's just a peice of crap. And whats really pathetic is when i hear of whole paintball games with brass eagles. Makes me sick. You people should save your money and buy something good.
