I am looking for some home made mods for my tippmann 98 custom. So far I have the pen spring trigger and the orthodontics band instead of the sear spring. I was wondering is there was anything else?? thnx

Split receiver mod.

I'm a little concern on the durability of the orthodontics band for a sear spring.

Warm weather it should be alright for a while but once you start playing in the winter with long scenarios and gun freeze ups more common, I would think the combined elements would cause them to fail more rapidly.

I don't really see the reason for the needed replacement of the sear spring.

Go back to your sear spring, the rubber bands will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. To me the difference in feel was negligible, and once they start to wear you'll get a bunch of misfires and chopping/pinching paint which is totally not worth it.

Split receivers is a good one.

Here's a fun one that I did; a pre-pull trigger stop. You should notice that, with the marker disassembled, there is a small bit of play before it engages the sear. What I did was cut a sliver from a phone card, and glued it to the top of the trigger right at the very tip over the return spring. The piece was the width of the trigger and literally just a few millimeters in length. This should depress the trigger slightly and cause it to be engaged directly with the sear at all times when the marker is in the firing position. It will noticeably shorten and lighten your trigger pull. You've got to be careful with this one though, if you screw it up you'll have recocking/runaway issues with the gun. It might take a bit of trial and error to get it just so.

After that the next mod to do is a post pull trigger stop; assuming you have a double trigger. If you have one of those stupid 'U' trigger guards that goes back into the original hole from the single trigger guard you'll need to hack saw it off, I did mine right where it began to curve upwards. Added bonus, you can actually get your fingers on the damn grip frame instead of having the guard in the way. Basically take either the piece you just hacked off your trigger guard OR the original single trigger guard, Leaving a flat face facing forward(and the trigger) cut it down to where it sits more or less flush in it's hole in the grip frame. Then tap it for a small screw, I forgot what size. Get the proper sized allen screw or even a button head, screw it into the holder you just made, pop it in to the marker and the screw should sit directly behind the trigger. Then just adjust the screw until you get a nice short trigger pull. By doing both of those mods along with the pen spring my 98C had a trigger pull of less than 2mm (yes, that's millimeters) and was nice and light.

It was probably one of the fastest non-RT & non-Electric 98C's out there. We could get 10BPS+ out of it without too many issues, and it was almost, ALMOST walkable depending on how strong the shooter's fingers were. For the longest time my buddies all assumed it was E-bolted if that gives you an idea.

That setup had two main drawbacks though, the higher rates of fire and shortened/lightened trigger could occasionally cause double firing. Also it caused the marker to eat up sears like popcorn. Ideally your 98 would have ACT or a Cyclone to help mitigate some of the pinching/chopping issues I faced as well.

I just made a sliencer type of thing with a pod. I cut the end off and broke the lid. I then shoved cotten balls down the pod and put it on my gun. I then hot glued it to my gun. The sliencer doesnt work well but it looks really cool. Thanks for the other mods
