Hey! I am looking into my first paintball gun. I was thinking about buying a Kingman Spyder Shutter, but now I am somewhat reconsidering. What do you think is a good gun to start with? I am willing to spend up to $200 for the gun. Thanx for the help. --Harrison

One of the Piranhas. Cheap, easy to maintain, easy to upgrade (takes all of the Spyder stuff) and you don't have to worry about funny threading pattern on adapters or staggered holes for bottomlines.
Yes I know I'm a Tippmann Fanatic and support them, but this is what I actually believe.
Tippmanns make great beginner guns. They are the most durable and rugged out there, very easy to maintain. Sure you can take them apart in 20 seconds with pins, but the internals are very simple design and extremely easy to get to know.
So not only will it be a gun for you to learn the inner workings of pneumatics with no real worries of not knowing how to put the gun back together. But you'll also be able to shoot a Tippmann forever with very little downtime. If cared for properly, it will probably have absolutely no downtime (minus O-ring replacements, but that's with every gun!).
The M98 and 98Custom are a good bet, even be it a clamshell. Very upgradable and customizable.
However, if you want something a little bit better built, and overall a smaller and lighter, then look into the Pro/Carbines.

I would suggest a Piranha for your first marker. Theyre easier to field strip than a Model 98.

but with a m98 u dont have to field strip.
in my 3 years of playing, and the 5 m98s that i play with no one has ever sat out a game to strip his gun. it just doesnt brake down.
if ur anal maybe something else would be fine. but for the lazy, m98 all the way
Get a Black Dragon they are awsome guns and they r elecronic for under $200!!!!

An blowback with an electro grip stapped to it is NOT a good first gun.

You have to decide what you want. I would go with a popular model so you would be able to get assistance if you need it. I would say its between Spyder (The TL Plus and shutter are two of the greats) and a Tippman.
With Spyder you get good performance, and it's very easy to find parts, get help, or just find someone who knows the internal workings of the marker and can help you out if you have a problem.
With Tippman (you would probably want to go with the 98 custom if you want a Tippman) You get good performance, but the stock 98 needs a barrel upgrade. After the barrel there's nothing eles you have to do. Durability and maintenance is Tippmans lucky charm. Ooh yeah just to add a little point I would like to make YOU DON'T NEED TO FIELD STRIPE A TIPPMAN ---EVER-- :pissed:
If I were you I would go with the shutter or the 98 custom. they will $ about the same once you go a barrel upgrade for the 98c. If you don't have the $ for that barrel upgrade, and have to use something all stock. I would say the shutter or TL

if u like taking things apart to clean, get a rebel. i love to take stuff apart. heheeh.....if i ever had a cocker i would mess it up within the first hour of getting it. rebels are more accurate outta the box than any other mid-level or low-level Blow back semi. they are one of those guns where the stock barrel is actually good. its a 40 dollar 32* quiet riot. 32ice.com

black dragun. hands down..
trust me.
Just to play d.a.
Why trust you?
Don't trust him.
Get a Piranha because thye are simple, cheap, easy to maintain, etc.
I think value lies in the Black Dragun. Its electro frame with the same stacked tube internals as any Piranha or Spyder, except you get and electro frame. You can adjust the trigger, it has easy field strip, titanium sear, all enclosed bolt, and works great on Co2. Its also compatible with spyder barrels and can take spyder grip frames etc. I speak from first hand experience, I've played with one and it beats a non-electro spyder.
If you're uncomfortable with the thought of an electro frame, tippmans, spyders, and pirahnas area all great choices. But if we're talking value, you get a pirahna/spyder-like gun with electro frame for 200.

Black Draguns also don't have anything moving on the outside while your firing. (except the trigger :) )
