Lpr mod.

While I don't much like the looks of them, the gun runs good with it.

So the new imps won't be VFF compatible?

Mhh....

I have heard about lpr mods before, and i have seen them on some gun setups on smart parts sponsored teams, but can the public now get the parts you need to put one on a stock imp? Are they really that good-as good or better than a vff? I know FOM was going to experiment with them, but that was some time ago, and i have not heard much more about it. These may be dumb questions, but im not really up on this issue.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

First of all--the Timmy has a LPR off the front-- why is that different then a Impulse with a LPR???

I have done a lot of work with LPRs and swapping different components in and out. I feel the VFF is a much better VALUE because you don't get a whole lot more preformance for the additional cost of a LPR. However, when we subtract the cost of the VFF, and take a little less mark up on the gun, We have figured out a way to sell the LPR Rats for the same price as the VFF Rats. Bottom line is that future Rats will have LPRs

The LPR will NOT keep you from chopping-- to "pich rather then chop" you have to go way too low on pressure. What the LPR will do is give you a controled pressure for your solonoid. Asuming you have everything else set up right, this will give VERY cosistent veloicities.

so if i had a stock imp, could i get the components to put on an LPR? are these parts available to anyone?

wait! so Vff's NO longer work on imps?
or is that just a rumor?
because even people with the newer id# on the guns are installing them?:confuse:

Smart Parts ahs changed the milling on the bodies. The very newest bodies are not drilled to accept the VFF. If you already have an Impulse, your gun will accept the vff.

We have such a high turn over in Impulses, that we would run out of the "old" bodies first. It may be a couple of months before some store runs out. We are talking about guns with serial numbers above 13,000 here.

what is the performance difference in vff and lpr?
and what does the gun look like with lpr?

The Legend

The VFF splits the air passage to give both the solenoid and the valve a direct flow of air. This helps with shootdown, bolt stick, low first shot problem and more.

The LPR is another reg that gives air dirctly to your solenoid. It helps with bolt stick, first shot problem, shootdown and makes the gun more consistant. Plus you can get a ton more shots off a fill if you set it up that way. It is definately a better performer than the VFF, I just dont like the looks. It's a cocker pnue reg comming off the front of the gun somwhere, then has a hose running into the gun.

Eh. Just not for me.

just to clarify things- an LPR is mounted where the valve cap used to be, right? But, obviously, you would need something to make the lpr fit in the valve cap's spot, because the threads are way different. So what would that something be? Does FOM sell it?

The Legend
03-23-2002, 08:23 PM
Not always. Sometimes the valve caps are drilled and tapped for the lpr, sometimes they mount them off the ASA. Fom said they planned on mounting the reg off the ASA, where the prv would go. This allows you to keep the valve cap of your choice, keep all that air volume and still have an lpr mod done to the gun.

Thanks for the clarification Legend. I have two more questions, if you dont mind. For one, is there any way i could mount an LPR on my imp with a eclipse FRM on it? And one more, slightly more general question: Which LPR's are you guys having success with? Any regs that in your experience perform the best/worst?

anyone?

Will the VFF issue be a problem for the Rat Impulses?

bob dole

i dont think so, i heard that future rats will come with LPR's instead, but I'm not positive.

DARN! And there is no way to mod either the new impulse's or the VFF to make it fit/work???

Gibralter

So for a fore grip, would you just have the gadget grip, just not connected to anything?

Anyone have a pic of a Imppy with the LPR mod on it?

there's another thread in this forum, started by johnnyrotten, that shows an impulse with an LPR. Here

http://www.pbreview.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45728

The LPR is mounted off the vertical adaptor, in this case a New Dezignz full flow.

The LPR really isnt doing ti for me as far as asthetics are concerned.

The Legend

From my experiance with cockers I'd say a rock is still the best bet as far as LPR's go. Johnny has a PMI lpr set up on the purple monster imp and I was having shootdown problems with it. Maybe it just needed some tweaking, but even after adjustment the thing wasnt keeping up. However that is easily the fastest Imp I've shot, till today. (My ros:))
The vff issue wont be a 'problem.' All rats up to now have the old style bodies, and the new rats without the old body will have an lpr with them. From a performance view, LPR is the way to go. However I hate the looks, and the vff on my ros does the job. I'm sure there's a way to mount an lpr with the FRM, however I dont personally know of one. I dont have any experiance w/ the FRM. But trust me, there's a way.

Thanks again Legend. :)

VVhiteGuy

what exactly is this FRM

bob dole
03-24-2002, 07:17 PM
The eclipse Front Reg Mount, it moves the bottomline max-flo reg to the vertical position. Unfortunately, since part of it is a vertical adapter, it means you can't use a vff or something like that. Thats why i was wondering if you could use an LPR with it, because like The Legend said, LPR's are usually mounted off of vertical adapters.

no problem!

The Legend

You dont have to mount an LPR on the vert asa, its just what most people do.

1. Its easier. Most vert adapters have at least one, usually two or three holes mounted for a gauge/prv. You just screw in the lpr and the hose and its good to go. Theres no drilling/tapping involved.

2. If you have an aftermarket valve cap you get to keep it. Face it, those are a lot of money just to make ugly again by putting another reg on it. You get to keep the looks and the air volume of the valve cap, plus still have an lpr set up.

Vffs work on the new pulses, but the new impulses come with a foregrip that have the smaller screw in thing, so you would have to buy a whole new foregrip if you want to get the Vff

is the VFF compatibal with the gadget grip?

The Legend
03-29-2002, 07:37 AM
Some gadget grips, yes. Some no.

SP made two different kind of gadget grips, the newer ones WILL NOT fit the Vff. The older ones will.
