I have no idea what a cup seal is, can someone educate me?

the cup seal is part of the valve.
When you pull the trigger the hammer move forward and hits the cup seal letting the air into the marker to fire the ball and recock.

actually the hammer hits the valve stem which is attached to the cup seal, when hammer hits the valve stem it opens the the valve and sends air though the valve chamber to fire the gun. The cup seal is what holds back the air from entering the valve untill the hammer hits the valve stem.
here is a picture of a valve stem with the sup seal attached to it.

say on a spyder a cup seal would go between the valve and the lpchamber
