any one been shoot in the neck i was looking in to neck guards and to be honest they dont look like they would do much other then keeping plastic shards out of your neck ive got pretty good medical knowledge and i no if you get hit in the neck with that kind of force it can do some nasty damage to your throat any one no any good neck protection that works and has had a good rep of actually working and not just looking pretty

I've got a BE neck wrap ... I haven't taken a neck hit, and it probably wouldn't protect me that well. I'm thinking of getting a Sandana head wrap, it has heavy cotton flaps that can be wrapped around the neck. You may want to look at JT, I think they have a thick neck wrap. you can check their site.

http://www.jtusa.com/

If nothing else, get a thick wool scarf, but that'd be hot in the summer, don't ya know.

Looks like crap, feels like crap and imo is kinda wussy since its protecting from getting a little welt which wont do crap anyway

I don't know nemessis ... a shot to the adam's apple or one of the main arteries/veins in the neck could cause more than a little welt, especially at close range. You've got to remember that at 280 feet-per-second, that paintball is traveling at about 294 miles per hour (rough estimate) and could cause some major damage to certain parts of your body. (check out some of the posts in the Stories forum about shots to the gonads). Better safe than sorry, or disabled, or dead.

I'm willing to take the risk. I also don't wear my bike helmet, or kneepads when rollerblading. I am just a risk taker that way. To each their own.

True, to each his own. I've got four kids, two cars, a mortgage and about two dozen creditors ... I've got to choose my risks carefully. :)

I don't wear neck protection. I can't remember ever being hit in the neck, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. The chances of actually being hit in the nuts or neck are very slim and, to me, doesn't constitute protection. On the other hand, I think the most protection in paintball is needed on the head, hands, knees, and ankles. From what I have read more serious paintball injuries are actually caused by the terrain of the field causing twisted or sprained joints. Obviously we all know why we need head protection. I think gloves are necessary because hands are one of those parts (like the head) that are stuck out most during a game. I personally take most of my hits on the head (goggles and forehead), gun, and hands.

Yeah... I guess if I had kids I would think differently. All I've got is one car, and about two dozen creditors. And I have insurance on most of that if I get hurt. Joys of being single I guess.

I have taken a couple hits to the neck. Mostly distance shots I wasn't ready for. Didn't hurt that bad. Just strange shots. If you play long enough I think that you'll get hit everywhere. I even took a good one to the nads once. Most of the time I get hit in the head or back(usually the A$$ for some reason.). Other than making for some interesting welts...nothing lasting.

I have seen people take some nasty falls though. But most of the bad injuries that I have seen have been of the kind that pads wouldn't have done any good.(broken bones and such) But to prevent minor injuries It's probably a good Idea to wear pads:)

Read my story about getting shot in the neck and having my voice scratchy since then and you know that a neck shot can do some damage. however, it's not as though I sound like hell when I talk, if you hadnt heard me before the incident you wouldnt know the difference. My belief is to wear as much safety equipment as you need to so that you no longer fear getting shot. Fear of getting shot while hamper your game, and if you need a cup and neck guard to be able to put that out of your mind completely, and rush from bunker to bunker without hesitation, it;s a good investment. I wouldnt recomend a neck guard to anyone who doesnt feel they need one, but if you are scared of being shot in the neck, by all means, pick one up, you'll have more fun when you play if you arent worried.

Excellant point ... My cup and neck protector: Never leave home without them. And, like Linus' blanket, they do give me the security I need to make those mad dashes. Most of the hits I take are when I'm rushing a bunker, or advancing upfield. I've never taken a hit close to the Jewels, but I've taken them in the shoulders, upper chest, and lower part of my mask (all close to the neck). Now i've seen some guys come to the field in mask and shorts only, no shirt ... I can't wait to bean one of them.

I'd say gloves are also very important, having taken several hand shots and finger shots.

I think neck protectors and chest protectors and any other protective gear you can wear are good I personally haven't yet invested in cup or neck or chest protection but in all reality would it hurt to have no not really is it worth the hassle of having it on yeah I think if you get shot in a vital enough area you'll agree

Chest protectors are built for females to protect their vital area.

Personally I think cups and neck protectors are not really necissary, I have been shot in the nuts only once out of 5 1/2 years of playing and I have never been shot in the neck.

Your neck becomes vulnerable when you lay in a ditch and are in a firefight with someone else. My cousin was hit in the neck this way.

Just me, but why leave anything to chance. You buy car insurance, not because you're gonna drive into another car, but just in case something does happen.

Like I said, it's just a comfort thing, neck protector or not, you arent going to actually die from a paintball hit, so a neck guard isnt 100% necessary, you just have to feel sage to play your hardest.

Law

I saw a guy get a nasty hematoma in the left side of his neck while lying on the ground. Needless to say when we checked the shooters gun it was at 360 fps. You gotta watch that afternoon sun!! I couldn't imagine one of those shots in the NADS?!?!

It makes you wonder why mask manufacturers haven't picked up the ball to make masks that offer more neck/throat protection, or haven't developed some add on stuff for that purpose.

i actually just made my own neck guard im planing on making one that i can put on any jt mask because the throat wraps feel more like neck braces and are uncomfortable i will be sure to post a pic and how to make the guard if any one is interested i havent finished it yet but soon

i dont mind being hit in the chest or the back or even the forhead but the neck and jewels have to have protectionfrom paint balls especially if you play outlaw ball witch is all i can play in my area

i think neck protecters also help prevent humiliation off the feild, "dude, u got beaned!" "wow, u must suck"

that too..but i mean..i got nailed in the neck before..trust me..i couldn't freaking breathe for like 2 minutes it hurt so much..it looked like i just got a freaking hicky from a giant octopus...ew right? but yeah..neckgaurds...it's a personal preferance..just like cups..shoot..i got shot there and thank God i had my cup on..i always put it on...my little soldiers need a bunker of their own..lol good analogy right?

Good one TL ... I prefer Darth Vader and his storm troopers ... ya know what I mean. But truly fans, neck protection and a bunker for the soldiers should be the second most important pieces of safety gear after your mask.

how about two wokies and a light saber but hell yea they should be next most important after a mask

Did y'all catch it in the Adam's apple ... That'd be scary cause it doesn't take that much pressure to crush it. Just something to think about.

When I took my shot to the adam's apple I thought I'd colapsed my wind pipe. I just doubled over and was like "Oh crap, I think I might die", then I realised I was gasping and air was coming in. Kinda a terrifying moment though
