Mainly how do they work?

They are supposed to, upon impact, spin around in a cicrcle and spew paint in a 15' or so radius. In my experience, they work about 70% of the time. The rest just lay there. They should be about $2. If you really lob them high, adding force to the impact, it helps blow that cap and webbing off. I am a big fan of Tippmann, but there needs to be a better grenade. I havn't tried the meteor shower one.

I think you're supposed to pull that netting down before you throw it...pull it down about halfway or so. I could be wrong. (I've never actually thrown one.)

i got a squad-buster to xmas and i'll tell yaa, of all the things tippmann makes, this is the only thing thats a waste, well to me. they are not worth $5. unless u got a clear hit on someone and will risk being exposed to throw it. they spray yes, and spin around but, end up flying back and spraying you if ya dont get a good lob on it. unless u nail someone directly with one, which i would hate to be on the recieving end of one, they are gaurentteed to just splash around. yea, pull the nettin, pull off the cap, and of coarse, the pin. our highly intelligent team mate for got to do any of the above, whatta idiot. so the grenade hit the person, and ended up getting thrown back at us (luckilly by a person of equal intelligence who never took out the pin, whew).
they dont explode. if u got an aircannon that will fit them, these are great, and if your a pitcher for ur HS baseball team, ur a sure canidate, but i really dont recommend them, other than for playing about, b/c all they do is get everyone full of splatter, nothing that will get anyone out (quarter sized paint mark or larger) ;). but go ahead and just get one to try it out during a game. if ya like em great! just don't take off the cap, pin or netting until u throw it, or ur gonna be crying cuz ya just let a $5 grenade spill all over ur floor :P

Squadbusters....ugh...love/hate relationship. There are some times where you are like "Cmon baby, lets wash thier bunker and win the game!"
*pulls pin, rambo-style, with teeth. Lobs it into bunker*
"OWW!! WHO THE F*CK THREW THAT?"
"What? did it break?"
"No! You hit me in the f*king mask with this thing!"
There are some occasions where it will not work. You throw with all your might, nothing. You feel desperate. You start shooting at your paint grenade. You get frustrated. Its not worth it you think.
But, then there are those times where it works like a charm. The key is, hit it on a hard angled surface if you can. It makes it bust like a water baloon. You can get a really big spray like that. I take off the net when I throw it, wasted energy is used for the thing to pop out of the net. Wither that or I take my Ka-Bar and cut it shallow so that it breaks easier
You will find your own methods soon enough

exactly, u phrased it well. i still remember the look on RJ faced when he was hit with the Sbuster, pull pin and cap all intact. lmao, he had this puzzled look like, "wtf, is this a joke?" i could see the confusion through his lense. lol.
only get these if ur die hard and have patience.

Well, I havent tried the squad busters, but I tried a meteor shower and it worked like a charm when I threw it in a tree fort occupied by two enemies. Of course, we weren't even playing at the time, resulting in them shooting me multiple times in the leg from 6 feet away. Oh well, it was worth it just to see the looks on their faces when I said "catch" and they saw a black ovoid object flying at them.
