Hi all,

I'm going to be buying a new marker soon and I'm having trouble deciding between the Viewloader Surge DF or the Spider Shutter. Got any ideas, comments, recommendations?

I hate to bash BE on this one, but from what I have seen, the Surge df is kinda crappy. I'd say go with the shutter and upgrade it.

Get a J&J Ceramic barrel, a good expansion chamber (ACI Sub-zero 8-stage's are very good) a low pressure chamber, a drop forward, a vl revolution loader (9 and 12 volt are fine for spyders) and see if your proshop can do a trigger job. All this should run you about $230 including the gun (no taxes cause I'm from Tax-Free New Hampshire :))

ENJOY!!! :agree:

DO NOT BUY THE GENISIS SURGE. Go with the Shutter or a Rebel Xtreme 2002. I had a Revelation which is a Surge without the cheap x-chamber. It broke in 2 months. BE and VL markers are a waste of money.

The spyder is of higher quality, but the surge isn't bad. Yes it has a plastic trigger, but its grip frame is metal. The spyder's is plastic, so if you're crazy about metal parts then go with the surge.

M3 black dragun basic all the way! I have one as you can see. It is fast, accurate (with a j&j) and looks good. Very similar to a spyder shutter but way faster. Do not get a surge they may have a nice grip frame but thats it i know 4 ppl who had avengers, genesiss, etc. all are broken now.

It's metal, trust me. And there's been nothing wrong with my friend's revelation, which is a surge w/o an expansion chamber or regulator.

In fact there has been no problems with any BE or VL guns I've tried. Some people hate them though.

Judging by the spyders, they seem to be of better quality, even though most need upgrades right out of the box.

The black draguns seem like good deals too, because they are so fast and novice players really like them.

Check out PMI guns, there extremely reliable and are made in the USA and there customer service is extremely nice. They have much better quality controll then the VL guns or PI E guns and you will have a more reliable gun. Spyder / kindaman is pretty nice but they have offset bottomlines that make it harder to get drop forwards and bottomline adapters, also they have all metric screws wich are harder to fine and there also a bit poorer quality.

Ermm, do you guys have any idea how long ago I made this thread? 6 months!!! Not to bash, I'm just telling ya. Neways, I didn't go with either, instead I jumped on the bandwagon (little did I know) and bought a '98 custom. Kinda sucked once I figgered out everyone and their brother has one, but it's been a nice reliable gun (I've only bust one ball in almost 6 months, shooting crap paint!) , and it workes really well after I got an S.P. teardrop for it, so I guess I'm happy. Probably should have gone for the Black Dragun, but thats ok.

Tippmann customs are great id recomend one over a spyder and for sure a black dragun <quality reasons> but the tippmann has way better quality controll and reliability. Id prefer piranha but thats just me :P

I like brass eagle and viewloader but i would say go with the shutter. It is a much better gun and you can upgrade it more.

the main thing that is wrong with the surge is that it is a overpriced piece of junk. A good entry level marker is a spider or spider clone...If u are a rec baller a 98 wouldnt be too bad but i just wouldnt reccomend a 98 to anyone for some reason.:|
