Hey guys.

I'm new to these boards and I hope for a warm welcome. :|

Anyway I'd hate to admit this but I'm fairly new to paintball. I've paintballed before several times but I've always either used my friends cocker or mag and I finally got enough money to get the gun I've been eyeing for a long time now, 98 Sniper. However I'd like some suggestions.

For those who don't know, here is the 98 Sniper:
Tippmann M98C
F/X Collapsible Stock
Standard Flatline
GTA Remote Line System

Thats it.

I'm ordering the gun minus the flatline and fitting a 16" (maybe 14-15") Stone Cold II barrel on it. I'm also fitting a knob on the end to regulate CO2, and I'm open to other suggestions, like should I get a Response Trigger System or should I drop the Remote Line and get a Dropforward, I'm the type of person that sits back and fires from a distance or provides cover fire etc. etc. I'd appreciate any help from you guys. :)

instead of the stone cold, go with a Lapco Bigshot. It's a better barrel, and it's cheaper.

You don't need a drop forward, especially if you're playing the back. Plus, having a drop forward and a stock is pointless.

I recommend the RT... it's a good system, and you'll get a much higher BPS. Don't forget to buy a revvy.

What type of revvy? (like I said I'm fairly new to paintball)

Why are you getting a 16" inch? :eyes:

Jekatts barrel choice is a good one. YOu will be very pleased with performance and price with the bigshot.
The r/t is also a great upgrade for a tippy if your looking to fling alot of paint. A Viewloader 12v revolution will feed nicely fo
you.
Id also suggest trying out that f/x stock (if you can) before ordering it. Its not a cheap upgrade, and I personally (and anyone else i know) dont feel it sits comfortably on your shoulder like a stock should.

Don't get a barrel that long. 14" should be max of any barrel out there. But they know there's people like you who are indeed kind of new and don't know all the physics and testings and bull****.
You can still get the SCII, it's a decent barrel.

What do I personally suggest? I suggest a VL200, no double trigger, no RT. Keep it simple for the first couple months. Learn how to use accuracy and maneuvering instead of learning how to spray and pray. Your skill will improve much better this way.

I mean that's all I am going to suggest currently. That you get a kind of basic stock gun, though you'll have the stock and aftermarket barrel. Use that for a while, don't just lay back and dump paint. Then after a month or two, this is when you upgrade to something like an RT and Halo/R2K/404/Rev/Egg2.

Fine, 15". I may be new, but I'd know more than you think. :P

Today I went paintballing 1 on 1 with my friend, I used his spare Autococker and he used his awesome Mag. We played for 3 to 4 hours or so and we finished out even. I like the way a cocker handles and such, too bad a cheap one would still be far beyond my price range. :(

And Meph, that was my initial plan, to kinda hang back and get a nice grip and become a better shot, then maybe save a ton of money and maybe buy a nice Autococker. And also, heh, whats the VL200? Is that a powerfed hopper (no laughing, you were once a newb like me too. :P)

And a final suggestion, for my Remote Line, where can I get an adapter so the Remote Line comes from the handle, when I used my friends cocker the remote never got in the way and I was very manueverable and quick, except for when the tank fell out of my pack and he nailed me 3 times. :/

VL200 = ViewLoader 200. The normal hopper, not electric. They call that one a Revolution/Revy. :P

Also, I didn't laugh. I'm a newbie just like you. Been researching Paintball at least a year though .. Still looking for the perfect gun. Only marker I own is a Talon which I bought years ago. Your a couple steps ahead of me, don't worry :D

First, if you want that CAR stock ( I have one) then you will want to get a remote line. It sounds like youre changing up that 98 snipe pkg alot already. I would reccomend starting from scratch. Want the CAR, use a remote. That stock is all in the way when you screw a tank onto the gun anywhere. The other option is to get the vertical adapter and intruder expansion chamber, and then you can have the CAR and tank-on-gun setup. If you want to pour fire out onto the field, the RT is the way to go. If you want to pelt people as soon as the game starts, get the flatline. The bigshot is a nice barrel, and I too reccomend no more than 14" or you begin to lose range. I might also suggest any of the smart parts barrels from12-14", the Nytestick by 32 degrees, or even a shorter Stone Cold if you can pay less than the other barrels. Here is a pic of one of my 5 T98's It has:
12v revolution loader
12"smart parts teardrop barrel ( not too bad)
Reactive Trigger
Vertical Adapter (for the expansion chamber)
Lapco T-stock
Macroline

So you're suggesting I do this:
Basic M98C
CAR Stock (not F/X?)
Remote Line with handle adapter
14" Stone Cold II barrel
12v Hopper (I don't think I'll need a revolution)
And any other misc. upgrades

Sounds cheaper. Heh, what about compressed air? :)

Also Exit, I've been researching paintball for a year now also, but recently I've been getting more into it so I started grabbing as much money as I could and I have about 400 bucks to spend on my first gun. :D Although I feel like oe of those rich kids that gets a top of the line custom made with the best items as his first gun, but it's my own money so it makes me feel better.

Don't go get all of this at once. First, if you have that much money just send me some:) If you get the aftermarket barrel and none of the other stuff you will be happy. That CAR is nice, but I don't think it's worth the $$$. Then learn how you like to play. If you get out there and end up deciding you're happier moving around and sticking and running, you will hate a 16" anything with another foot of CAR hanging off the back. Then if you're having to use C02(like me) you will want an expansion chamber, and that might be next. The X-Core from Psycho Ballistics is nice, and it's only $15, + the vertical adapter cost. Iwould pick a barrel to stick with, then an X-chamber because those 2 things can stay constant with the changing shape of any Tippy that's up and coming. The other stuff straps on around it. Those 2 are functionally important. The rest will be to your own style and taste. Listen to Meph, he's good at this stuff. Here is another one of mine:

The stock on the gun above this post, that's the F/X or the CAR? The way I enjoy playing is sitting back and providing support or breaking off from my team and divert an attacking team. If I bought an F/X I could pop the thing off, set it down or hand it to someone, go off and do some close range fighting, come back and pop the stock back on, because it's collapsible, handy. :)

Also somewhere down the line I'll just use a multi-purpose cocker (14" SCII, remote system, 12" Smart Parts AA, etc. etc.).

Just buy the remotle line seperate. Its like $35 or something, and it comes with the part that screws right into the ASA on the grip. That way you can take the CAR off and just hang a tank on there if you decide to. If you want HPA then go for it, I just find that it cost me more to fill with it, and it doesn't weigh out for me to do. I lease a 50 lb tank of co2 and it's in my garage. All my buds come over and we fill up before each day of play. HPA will give you more consistent performance regardless of outside temperature/weather conditions where co2 begins to drop off when the temp drops below 55 to 60. Get what you want, just don't dump $250 in upgrades on a 120 buck gun before youre confident in how you will play. I have a model 98 (not 98 custom) that has the CAR and flatline. We play a game near here that is capture the hill. And it is a hill too, about 50 feet at a 60 degree slope to the top. I use that one there because the flatline will drive those pballs right up that grade, where other barrels drop off into the ridge. I put that gun through hell, and it keeps on going. But in the creek, more like trenches, that thing would be too darn long. That is where my stubby comes in. Trench sweeper. 6" barrel and RT. See, it depends on your style, field, and game situation. I even have a tippy for speedball:

that is the Car. There is one a www.countypaintball.com that is made by Air TIpps, that actually has a rear velocity adjuster built in. Mine is not that one. Mine is held on by 1 screw, and that could be replaced with a knurled knob screw for fast removal like you were talking about. But they do not come off with the flip of the wrist. Remember, barrel, then X-chamber, then other goodies. That way, the performance is upgraded before looks. That should keep you happy. Double triggers are nice, and ring triggers, the full boar shadow cocking system is sweet, and I love my RT. But without a good barrel, and evening out co2 performance with an expansion chamber, the other things would be wasted.

Well I already know how I like to play, I've played several times, I just don't own a gun, I've used like 5 differant guns, 3 were Tippmanns, and I just like the way they work (although when I used the Cocker today I instantly fell in love, too bad it's so darn expensive) all around, they're nice for both close range and sniping, of course pending on an upgrade. However a 14" barrel works nicely for both types of combat, and like I said an F/X stock can be taken off at any time.

Besides, all together thats nowhere near $250 in upgrades, 35 for the remote, 50-80 for the barrel, 30-40 for the stock, 15 for the VL200 (I think), and 15 for the expansion chamber. And with my $400 budjet I can get a nice PT Xtreme (maybe), save it for a Cocker (drools  ), get some nice misc. gear (harnesses, camo, camo netting, etc. etc.).

Try and get a 12 revolution loader. that will go nicely on any rig you end up with. have fun!

even if you have 400$, you still gotta get paint, a mask, co2/air, co2/air fillups, more paint, and possibly gloves and pods. In my oppinion remote lines arent worth it. they always get stuck on tree and bush especially when you crawl. Id say you just get a regular 98c package for around 200 and use the rest on the other crap. Ill tell ya now paint is freakin expensive, and if you dont have a job your gunna have trouble keepin up.

Another great place to look is ebay. Check this-
98c (used)
16 ounce
20 ounce
1000 paint
RT trigger
X-fire mask
3 squeegies

all for how much? 165. that is less than the basic 200$ package that has far less. Then i used my dirtbike gloves cuz geting hit in the hand isnt fun, and bought a barrel offa some kid in the locker room for 20$ stock barrel really blows, but with this new one i havent broken one ball. i think its a PMI razzor 12 inch. also got a basic tippmann double trig for 11$ opposed to 30. the trick is to find auction during 1st hour (like 6-8 am, my first classes both use computers) cuz no one is awake to bid for stuff then, thus letting you get it for cheap cuz theres no ebay snipers awake. bidding at normal hours is ok, but stuff will go up way more in cost

ebay is the way to go, but you get no warrantys if you do. The only real upgrade youll need is a barrel, then you are set for a long time.

I already have a mask, gloves, and plenty of pods. I know paint can be expensive but there's a place not to far from my house that sells RP Gold at really nice prices, and I know several sites that sell RP Premium and Gold (the paint I use) for very cheap as well, and with free shipping. :)
