By the way, this summer I'm having a huge, HUGE, paintball party at my house. We're using 2 fields, one has a naturally dug trench (soooo much rain) and a barn with so many doors and crevices with tall grass, fences, more tall grass, trees, more tall grass, hills, rocks, tall grass, and a run down house.
So if you wanna come, you're perfectly welcome, just gimmie your address (in an email if you'd perfer) and I'll send out an invitation.
Also if you ever wanna come by after school we can go paintballin' with my neighbor and my friends. :)

We have a (and I stress this) Team in Rockbridge County. All we do is get together every so often and play, thats it. Nothing official but I guess we can be called a team. *shrugs*
If you all wouldn't mind I could make an attempt to come and play, meet some more people, etc. etc.

And this is what makes everybody from this area think all of you are arrogant B*STARDS. Really, you don't even know me, you've never seen me, and you call me a hick? Radford happens to be the best high school in SW VA. We have been ranked in numerous "best high school in America" list, and I have yet to see a school from NOVA. I graduate from high school this year, and I am doing so with honors. I am the Salutatorian, and I will be at UVA next year. So really, DON'T STEREOTYPE SOMEONE UNTIL YOU'VE AT LEAST TALKED TO THEM.

Well then I apologize. Look at the time of the post. It was still pretty early, and I wasn't altogether with it. I didn't see the some people part. Moreover, now that I read it again, I see that you said that you guys are kinda hicks as well. Please accept my apology; I'd like to keep things friendly with all of the VA players.

Wow.. I'm suprised at the # of Roanoke Residents here. I used to live in Lynchburg (Forest Actually), 1 hour East of Roanoke. I went to Jefferson Forest High School (****tiest school in VA, those of you who know it will side with me on that one). We used to have a house on Smith Mountain Lake (ppl from Roanoke def. know where SML is).
Anyways.. I now live in Chesterfield, which is 30 min South of Richmond.. Great place, but not too many fields here. I usually just play woodsball with friends.

Try the link now, should work. Anyway Skyline has awesome prices, compared to other places. They have a speacial league and such for playing in winter, and not a lot of places have a winter league.
Prices:
2,000 rounds of RPS Marballizer - $60.00
2,000 rounds of PMI - $60.00
2,000 rounds of RPS Polar Ice - $60.00
2,000 rounds of BigBall - $55.00
2,000 rounds of Team Colors - $60.00
High quality paint only, nice eh? :) The prices go by 2,000 round cases and 1,000 round cases are like $20.00 less, can't remember. And check out the fields, it's a great place. Once my new stuff comes in I'm goin' up there for a day with some friends, if you're up to it Muck I'll tell you when and if you can come I'd... well I wouldn't quite feel honored, but somewhat glad? :)

I drove out to Pev's this morning cause no one seemed interested in meeting at Hogback ... anyway, Pev's is closer, so I got directions off their Web site, price, etc ... got there, but set up, let them fill my tank, and I asked them if they'd hold my check until the end of the day, and I'd stroke in the amount before I left and the guy tells me they don't take checks .... AARRRRGGGHHHHH! I just wasted most of my day going out there, and didn't even get to play. I had enough cash on me to pay for the air fill.

Few things to say...
1. DC is 10 minutes from Annandale
2. Pev's is quite expensive as a field and a store, check it is much better store.
3. Pev's is $15 bucks, but is the closest thing to the DC area. All the others are about an hour away in leesburg (Hogback, AG, etc.)

Paint_Suey, I'll be in Richmond this weekend, I'm introducing my friend to paintball, he's never played before. If you're up to it or free we could meet at a field between Richmond and Mechanicsville or in Richmond or in Mechanicsville. I'll be there Friday and Saturday or Thursday - Saturday. I'll send you some PM's when I know more.
Muck, August 4th (this weekend when I get back from Richmond) i'm taking a van up to Skyline in Strasburg with some of my friends. If you want to come, come on down. I shouldn't be to hard to spot, just read my signature. I'll send you some PM's if we decide to stay in Richmond that Sunday. But even if you did go and I wasn't there, your day wouldn't be wasted, the field is awesome. :)

Narf!
Sorry to dissapoint you both but I refuse to go back to BCBG and Muck, I'll still be in Richmond then.
The reason I refuse to go back to BCBG is because it's a horrible field, there are a lot of people working there but even so the help and service is only decent. The shop is terrible, location is even worse (of the field and shop) and if I'm going to introduce my friend to paintball, we'll at least do it at a Grade B field. I just wish I could have taken him to Skyline, it's only 2 hours away. :(
Maybe I'll come up if, IF, he and his parents agree. Not to mention mine.
Paint_Suey, if you're at splatbrother's or some place like that I'll be more than glad to meet you there, Splatbrother's has a good reputation, and that's a mere 30 minites from Richmond. We should also go there just because there's a town near it called "Ballsville."

Got to Hogback after a two hour drive (I made a wrong turn and didn't realize it for a while). Went to chrono my marker and it started leaking around the macro line. Got that fixed, went to chrono, and it started leaking through the 90 degree fitting on my reg. No one had any teflon tape ...
So, I had to leave. Two weekends in a row that something has gone wrong and I haven't been able to play, not one stinking game ...
I think I'm gonna sacrifice a case of Blaze on the Alter of the Great and Powerful Paintball Gods ... perhaps I'll find redemption.

Yeah, Hogback has some great looking fields ... Rec and speedball ... I did tour the fields before I left. However, one criticism ... the speedball fields are on slopes, so, you'd have to run uphill to get to some bunkers. Also, the speedball fields don't have traditional bunkers ... one field the bunkers are made of stacked cords of wood. still, I give credit to the field owners, they've done a hella job making some great fields.
Now, if I could actually get to play some paintball at these fields.

well this is what happened when i went,
\
*the fill station line was like 15 mins long
*the refs where *** holes, but they were good refs
*long walks from playing area if your rec, again i was playing the big game, if i go, ill be at the hyperball which is 50 feet from the main area
*the hyperball field doesnt have a net last time i was there, they just had a 50 foot gap form the fil station, set up area, and the field,
*rec fields are too woody and big, not that fast, and lots of stuff to get in the way
that was from my time at a big game, it might be differnt on a regular day, and proboly is

First Shot Drop Off... It's a common problem in Imps..
If you've left your gun unfired for about 20 minutes... the first shot will be kinda low.

Alrighty fellows, after much complication with re-registering my account and returning from my much needed vacation, I'm going paintballing. First time in like 2 months. I'll be at Skyline on August 25th. See my profile for information and such things. I'll be wearing BDU pants and maybe my jacket depending on how hot it is. I probably will be the only person with a M-4A2 replica as well. But if all else fails, if you hear Irish folk music, follow your ears. It's probably me and my latest burnt punk CD.
This is specifically to Muck because I'd feel special actually meeting a moderator and because I'd be able to meet the legend himself. But anyone else is welcome to come. ;)

dont go to skyline, go to pev's/agpaintball! I dont know if you know this but while you were gone they merged! They are making a super cool field and it will all be done by late september. Its opened right now, its not done yet but they still have air ball field and hyperball. Go there its really cool, I'm planning on going august 25th/ Sunday and i think muckracker is going to try to go this weekend. I've never been to skyline but pevs/ag is going to be the best field in virginia so you might as well famalrize yourself with the field!
go to pevs.com or agpaintballgames.com to get directions!
I'll try to be there, i'm short, indian (light brown skin), blue flame jt jersey and 2k2 black magic blue cocker!

I haven't been to VAG for about a year, but when I was there, I didn't think it was that bad. Granted that the fields are a bid off from the fill station, but their fields are large and vary from one to another. It was setup for rec/wood w/ one speed or two speed ball field. The only thing is that there is no net for the dead zone so you have to wear you mask all the time which get very hot quickly.
Any other fields around this area besides pevs, vag, and hogback?

Since there seem to be a ton of posts here about the fields in Northern Virginia...I thought I'd throw my opinions into the mix.
VAGames
The VAGames fields are right off Sycolin Road in Ashburn VA (though it's right on the Ashburn/Leesburg border). It's easy to get to from Route 7, Route 28 or the Dulles Toll Road. The field entrance is well marked but when you get to the field location it's a bit sparse. There's a tent field on your way in which I think is supposed to be their equivalent to Sup Air. It's REAL weak. The walk-on and rental prices are the cheapest of the 3 Fields in the Area and for good reason. The fields are cheap. Their speedball field is weak...a bunch of 50 gallon drums stacked basically. None of the fields have netting which means you're stuck wearing your mask all the time. This gets annoying. Most of the fields are on rather steep hills which gives you issues with terrain. The staff was real friendly which was a plus and they didn't require rentals to use field paint. There weren't many people out playing when we were there (Saturday morning/afternoon)...maybe 15...tops. Payment was cash only. It was my least favorite of the 3 fields.
Hogback Mountain
Hogback Mountain is the furthest of the 3 fields from the DC or Fairfax Area. It's located off of Route 15 just before Leesburg. It's not well marked (though the road you turn off on is Hogback Mountain Road...) and unless you're looking for it, it would be easy to get lost. After a 2 mile drive through the estate you finally get to the field. Parking was a bit tight but not to bad. The price for players with their own equipment was $10 and rentals were $30. This is slightly more from the $25 that VAGames charged for rentals. Both places gave 100 paintballs and free CO2 (as well they should). Payment was Cash only. The fields were probably the nicest of the ones I played in Northern VA. Some of the terrain blew and the stacked wood didn't add much to the game. I mean...geez...they should go blow $100 at Home Depot and buy some plywood and build cheap bunkers. The refs there weren't particularly good, but I've seen worse. (See also VAGames). The place as a whole didn't do a good job letting people know when games were starting and they need to get more organized. The games were quite good and there's some real talent that plays there. I'd go back, if only for that reason. I've heard their scenario games are great due to the interesting fields, hopefully those games are more organized. I didn't like the fact that they only talk walk-ons on Sundays...that didn't seem smart. Check It Paintball in Chantilly (and Annandale) has more info on Hogback. Their field paint prices weren't too unreasonable. (I recommend Check-It for getting paint...they're the cheapest in Northern VA...I go to the store in Chantilly for my cases). The field can be reached from the Metro area in any one of a number of ways...Route 50 to Route 15, Route 7 (or the Toll Road) to Route 15, etc. If I were to compare Hogback to Pevs old field, Hogback would be the top dog...but the new Pevs field at AGPaintball is just ahead of Hogback.
Pevs @ AGPaintball
The new Pevs field is just what Northern Virginia needs. They have the 2nd best parking (VAGames is better) of all three fields and they also have the distinction of being the hardest to get to. They're accessible from Rt. 15 in Leesburg, Sycolin Road in Ashburn or Route 7. Go to their website for directions. The Pevs field is the most expensive to play, either as a rental or if you have your own Equipment. ($15 with your own Eq or $35 if you're renting). I really enjoy their new fields. They have some great speedball fields, a slick Sup Air Field and the woods fields are large, and well designed. It's not overly crowded playing 30 on 30. I personally enjoy the Rock Garden field that greets you as you drive in. The sandbags are a nice touch...better than the stacked cordwood at Hogback and VAGames. The staff at Pevs is much more professional. They cater well to large groups and are easy to deal with at one of their stores or on the phone. They have a covered staging area with brand new picnic tables and lights. The pro shop is decent, I've seen better, but hell it's damn nice compared to the other two fields. You can pay by cash or Credit Card here. The facility is indoors and has a TV for mom and dad to relax while the kids play. They have a nice grill, BBQ area for food at lunch time and two refill areas (for N2 and CO2). They require rentals to buy field paint, which is also the most costly of the fields. They also require barrel condoms as opposed to barrel plugs. The games are well organized for walk-ons or for groups. (We took 50 people from my office out there with no snags whatsoever.) My strongest dislike for Pevs and the one thing I *REALLY* wish they'd change is their policy for groups...where you only get 3 hours with rental equipment. I find it an extreme rip-off to have people have to pay an extra $15 to have a group play all day usually on top of the highest field paint prices and group prices.
Some of the younger refs aren't as good and the games have a tendency to suffer, but this is true anywhere. The teams tend to have a run of the Sup Air and Speedball fields which can be intimidating to walk-ons who want to play up there. Way too many egos. The popularity of the new Pevs field has filled the place on many days and they have been getting close to running out of rentals for walk-ons, on occasion. This is the most expensive field, but they can get away with it since they pack the place every Sat or Sunday. Many of the Pevs Store personnel also work the fields on the weekends. Todd from the Fairfax store is a regular out there and is a top notch guy to deal with. For younger players with limited income, Pevs can get pricey, well over $20-25 a day with your own equipment. Well over $55-60 if you're renting. The proshop has good eq to sell and if your equipment breaks, they can fix it on site. They get started at 10 on the money and end at 1. Break and start again and go from 2-5 every Saturday and Sunday. The guys that work there are pretty good about keeping egos in check and about booting unsafe people. (I saw 2 kids a few weeks back booted for opening up full auto on a guy that was out.) The employees are a pleasure to talk to and cooperative. Hogback had guys that were OK but they had an ego problem. VAGames also had some helpful employees as well, but just not to the level of Pevs. Pevs also has something that the other fields don't...room to grow. It seems like they're always opening up new fields. With as many people as they get, they have the $$ to continue to do so well into the future. They also make concerted efforts to maintain the existing fields.
Summary
All three fields are located within a 10 mile radius of each other but my money says that Pevs is the top dog. I'm looking forward to seeing their new 80 acre field in Woodbridge next year. Hogback runs a close 2nd and VAGames a distant 3rd as it's borderline close to playing "outlaw". Websites for the fields are as follow:
Pevs - www.pevs.com or www.agpaintballgames.com
Hogback Mtn - www.hogback.net
VAGames - www.vagames.com

Yeah...no argument there....VAGames is one step above being outlaw. I don't think they're affiliated with any store and I have, as of yet, to hear anyone that really likes them. The only good thing is that they probably have the space to do "Big Games" there with the abundant parking and land. That's pretty much the only "good" thing. I think most everyone I know plays Pevs.

I haven't been to VAG. I went to Hogback once, and won't go back. Who wants to play speedball on a slope!? Plus, they have nothing that resembles a proshop. I blewout a macro line, they didn't sell any, they had no teflon tape, nothing I could use to fix it. That sucks, especially since you have to drive so far to get to their field.
Pevs@AG is by far the best field in NVA ... hands down, for all the reason Lopez point out, plus, talented and professional staff, good mix of players, good mix of fields and you don't have to rotate through all the fields if you don't want to. Normally, I play on the speedball fields all day, but you can also join the rec crew if you want to, then come back to speedball.

I like the fields at PEV@AG but there is a few things that still erk me. One - some area still don't have nets up, so I have to wear my mask all the time. If there is a game going on next to us, we still have to wear our mask even if we are not playing. Second - they make you walk all over the place. I walk like 10 minutes from one end to the other end just to play 2 15 minute games. I think about a third of the time is spend walking to different fields. Third, I played walk on this weekend with 80! other people. That is one hell of a single walk on group. Couldn't they just form 2 or 3 groups out of that! Hell, as soon as the game start, I have 4 or 5 people shooting at me from all directions. Four - there is no clean area for you in any of the dead zone for you to do maintaince on you gun. Nothing but dirt.
I do like the covered staging area and since they merge w/ PEV's, there is some neting vs. none before. The pro shop is nice, but I don't find a need for it because I always carry everything w/ me.
Hogback has it's up's and downs also. The first time I was there I let off a couple shoot while trying to get ready at the staging area. The owner got on my case for doing that even through I done have a hopper on or the barrel in. So the you are very limited on what you can do in the staging area. No, there isn't any place you can so anything w/ you gun unless is at the crono which has two guys there with like 50 people in line. You have to wait till you get up to the fields. By that time if your gun is working, you'll have to seat out a game or two working on it. I don't mine the long round about way of getting there. Parking is ok for me. The fields are smaller than PEV@AG.
I really like the way the fields are lay out. There is one center dead area for like 5 feilds. It is covered and neted so you can take you mask off. You just bring you stuff there and play all five fields without have to carry them to every field. Most of the dead areas have a picnic table so you can do work on your gun on a clean surface. They also for more than one walk on group. It's usally no more than 30 or so per walk on group.

10-28-2002, 02:08 PM
Yeah...don't get me wrong...Pevs AG still has some work to do...especially with netting up on the upper fields (Deep Woods and the Village come to mind...) but Winter Forest and Dodge City are great to play. Did you play Sat. or Sunday? I was there Sunday all day in the walk-on group...I like the atmosphere of having that many people in a woods game. It was probably only 30x30 but the fields easily accomodated that IMHO. I feel your pain about not being able to clean your gun there either...that's frustrating. I say give em time...they seem to be getting more done with each passing week. I wouldn't mind getting a group together to go up there and have a "work day" or something where we put in a few hours, hang nets and get the fields set up in exchange for play passes or something.

Don't know the last you were at Pevs, but they've done a lot of work getting the fields netted. You can now walk down the trail from the pro shop to the Hyperball fields, and both sides are fully netted. They're also beginning to work on netting the new fields that are on the road leading to the pro shop (I think it's the rock garden and the castle fields). They also have some work left to do to net the last two hyperball fields, but in all, it's the best netted park I've played at.

I was chatting with the employees this weekend and they're getting rid of the old cemetery field and changing it into a castle field. Very neat idea. As a result they've freed up more room and cleared space along the Rock Garden field giving more room to play along the flank. They also put up more nets for deadzones in Tall Cedars and they're adding nets shortly up near the village and deep woods. I've got a 40+ player group this weekend and the hard part now is deciding which fields to play...
