I have a tricked out 2001 Autococker and 90% of the time it works GREAT, but I should really get a reliable back-up for it. It rarely breaks down, but when it does I would like to have a good marker to fall back on or loan to friends. I hate double triggers and don't wanna hop on the Custom 98 train, what do you guys think of a Carbine as a back-up? I have a Freak as well as other Cocker threaded barrels and would like to be able to use them if I could, do they make Carbine to Cocker adapters? Please hook me up with any information you may find useful. Thanks again Tippy owners!

If you want a 99% reliable backup semi-auto, the pro-carbine is the gun for you. All you really need to upgrade on it is a better barrel, but thats the same for like every gun. The fact that there aren't too many other custom parts for it out there will keep you from spending too much cash on extra stuff for just a backup gun. Me, I love my pro-carbine, by the fact that it shoots more or less just like the m98 and its debatabley more sturdy.

The legendary reliability of the procarbine comes from its design and materials. It is a more rugged and hefty design than the 98's without a doubt. I have several of each. I do believe that this adapters you would need, although there is not a direct cocker to procarbine one http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=837 http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=837
Really it would be easier to just get one good barrel for your backup gun, and just let it be than using those things.
The fact that more fields use the Tippmann procarbine and prolite guns for rentals should speak volumes to your question about it's place as your backup.

Pro series markers are great. Unlike the M98 body style, they're machined, and thus, have slightly better tolerances. They've also got a field strip system that is easy to do, unlike the tedious dissasembly of an M98.

Pro series markers are solidly built, reliable, easy to clean, and have bunch of "upgrades" as well as a large barrel selection to choose from. I would definitely suggest a Pro/Carbine as a backup marker, won't ever go down as long as its properly taken care of.

I'd just suggest either polishing the stock barrel for better performance, and or getting a new aftermarket barrel (like a Lapco or J&J) and replacing the trigger spring with an SL68II Trigger spring or an M98 trigger spring. Its helpful, given Pro/Carbines have a 9lb trigger pull, as opposed to the 3lb pull of an M98 or SL trigger.

I don't see how you could go wrong with a pro-carbine as a back-up. Tons of fields use them as rentals, so clearly they aren't prone to breaking. Sure, they aren't the most accurate of things, but if you need something to get you through the rest of the day, you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm sure I'll get one now:) I really like the idea of the trigger spring swap, good call! I'll probably wind up making a purchase for a Smart Parts barrel. My first performance upgrade though will definately have to be Regulator, I hate to shoot any gun without one. Rather than buying the Carbine vertical adapter upgrade I will probably just remove the SS hose from the body, insert a 45* elbow, attach a MiniCocker Vertical adapter and a WGP stock Cocker reg, then connect to BL adapter. Puts a nice angle on the reg, although it is doubtful I will use it as a fore-grip considering the nice shroud already on the P/C. Any other advice would be appreciated, thanks guys!

PMI makes a bottomline reg that you just screw your air source into. Here's a link to it. http://www.skanline.com/productspb/hp-regulators/HP_Regulators_PB.html I've seen it cheaper from paintballgear.com and bbtpaintball.com, this is just the only one I found with a picture and description. Might end up costing less after all the parts for the other one. Just a thought.

Doubtful. THe elbow is only like $3, the adapter like $15 and the reg I can get here in the forums for $30. All I need to connect the BL and Reg is either Macroline kit or another SS hose.

the procarbine is nice and all, but ive seen them during play, and played along side them, and they are loud, and cumbersome.... get a 98c and u will never regret it, i PROMISE.... while ur at it, put $45-$50 extra into it and get a SP progressive.

Id get the pro/carb hands down over the 98. I don't like the gip on the pro lite/ mini lites

Only qualm i have with the carbs is the seemingly mile-long trigger pull.

I start hitting it, used to my custom, expecting to lay down a burst, and I get 1-2 shots off, if that.

The only product I can reccomend 100% is the 98 or 98C. I have used both, and I've been in contact with numerous different mutilated products in the short time I've been balling.

Lemme tell you, it is really, really hard to screw over a 98C.

Hmmmm, eh I've decided to go with something more on the Autococker's level, perhaps a Sovereign. THanks for all your input though guys!

you might take a slight risk on the new kid on the block. the sentinal it is a stacked blowback but comes custom annoed and uses cocker threaded barrels.
