Newbies sadly don't know better, Sometimes it is lack of instruction on the part of the field, sometimes it is a complete brain fart on their part. Either way I think it is our responsability to watch out for the newbies we play with. I reff as well as play rec and see it all the time. I usually give everyone on the field a safety breafing even though they get one at the store. I also outline a penalty system that I enforce strictly. You get one warning about keeping the mask on. That warning is when I tell you before the game. You get caught once you are setting out the rest of the game and the next, If you get caught again you are escorted off the field and asked to leave. This has worked really well and I have never had to aske anyone to leave. When I play I try to keep an eye on them and help them out. If one of them takes their mask off I quickly get on to them and let them know their error, but I don't cuss at them or yell at them.

I think you're referring to the JT Rx inserts. County has them.

At my local indoor place, we have this dumb ref...

We go into the game, all in a line, pic teams, go to our sides when the person next to me starts laughing. I say "what" and he's like "See that ref over there?"

I looked.

His mask was on his forehead...Not his face.... Gaaah

We go "hey ref" and tapped on our mask....

Ref-......oooooooohhhhhh

-Knux wanted to kick that guy

I guess you could say I'm a newbie. I've never taken my mask completely off my head, but on occasion the rental masks will fog up. To fix it, I'll run back to my side way way deep behind cover where I know for sure that I'm safe, and slide it up for a second to try and wipe off some of the condensation. While I won't be having this problem for long (I'm getting a JT Flex 7 Thermal System), I never thought there was much wrong with this.

I've heard tons of different things about whether they really do prevent fog or not, and just about everything I've heard has affirmed the claim. Is it true? I can deal with anything BUT fog. There's absolutely nothing worse than having to leave the field because you either can't see anything or because someone lit you up while you were blind.

thermal lenses are two lenses together. the double paned lense is what keeps it form fogging up

IT's just like anything. People don't think it can happen to them, so they do it anyways.

Once the kids doin it see a picture of a guy with his eye out cuz he had no mask, I think they'd get the pic.

They should have at every field a pic of a guy right after being shot in the face to scare the young kids.

Yeah the JT thermals work great. I've had mine for almost 3 years and never once have they fogged up on me, indoor or outdoor, rain or shine.

That's when the more experienced players have to step in and instruct the newer ("newbie") player as to the rules of the game. Newer players really appreciate it whenever you, take them under your wing, so to speak. Guide them through the game of paintball and they will become a better player. In all fairness to the new guy, he really doesn't know any better. I noticed that Tack is one of these types of people, it's nice to see the veterans giving the newbies a hand.
