View Full Version : Ratpulse initial impressions

I have about 20 hours of rec use on my Rat Impulse now, and thought I would share my initial impressions for those who are undecided.

First outing- not impressed. This was a major upgrade for me, going from standard semis. Trigger was too light, I didn't adjust well. ROF seemed slow, lots of chopping, first ball dropoff. All in all, thought it was "OK"

Second outing- little bit better, especially near the end of the day. Still was sporadic on firing rate, at times outshooting hopper feed but no breaks. Still "OK"

Today- Whooee! Me and that trigger finally clicked. Very consistent ROF, the Rat "knew" when I needed to shoot and took care of it for me. Steady streams, little movement due to light recoil, no chops. Of course, I do not approach the ROF others claim, but this marker wasn't the holdup- I just can't shoot that fast. Biggest problem was the amount of paint I shot- gun was accurate, I didn't need to, but it was sooo much fun watching those boys trying to kiss the ground.

This brings up my real problem. I have introduced many of my son's college buds to paintball, providing them with my old (but well maintained) markers, paint, gas, and masks for their first outings. I overheard (yeah, sure) comments from the son about this marker being "unfair", followed by comments about how a younger, quicker, better player with a marker like this could dominate some old guy. Now, should I get another Ratpulse and show him how age and treachery can still win over youth and ability?

If I had a Rat Impulse I wouldn't lend it to anyone. It would be like the ring in Tolkiens novels...it would control me.

PS: By older guns, do you mean say, slightly upgraded Spyders from '98 or a flock of PMI-1's from '89? hehe

Reyneman,

try adjusting the trigger to be really short, but stiff. I've been messing around with the trigger for 2 days straight now and I've tried everything- that seems to be the most practical setup for me.

Yes.

However, I'm a younger, quicker, better player with a rat and I dominate old guys. :D

hey reyneman,,,,i am a old guy who bought a rat impulse. i also have a son who plays with his friends in my back yard(one acre in the desert) i play the boys 2 on one and 5 on two, finally one on one...the kids are merciless, you can outsmart them once with a move, but never again, they move faster, smaller and creep though places your knees and back cant......markers dont matter, i get lit up with tippmans and spyders...Rof can only scare kids so long,,,,if you are playing college age boys you are dead meat,,why do think army rangers are 18-22.....my boy is 12, he thinks adults just make big, slow targets..i also bought him a rat,,,it doesnt matter, the kids can shoot anything...best of luck and keep bluffing the young guys...but sooner or later they will figure it out....keep painting:eek:

If you want to adjust how light or heavy the trigger is, just take off the frame and tray, separate the frame from the tray and look at the allen wrench adjustable spring, just turn that till you find a setting you like.

I found my first day with my Rat the best skill day ever, i bunkered like 5 people, never chopped or skipped, and had some of the best consistancy ever, along with phenominal speed.

I had the same learning curve with my Rat ... I upgraded from a Piranah STS ... the thing that took the most getting used to that first day was definitely the trigger ... I put two balls in the barrel condom, one on my foot, and one into another player's back before I got used to it.

okay reyneman,,,here is a secret to keeep your young studs in line...call the rats( rotten rat) send your gun back and have them install a I Frame.....and a freak barrel......this is important...maybe,,just maybe,,,,you will have a chance to survive and rule....it will increase your ROF and accuracy maybe 10%, then skill and courage take over also being in shape to run a 6 minute mile helps...young guys never quit until they run out of air and paintballs....last thought...buy your son and friends a keg of beer...then they wont care who has the impy....best regards and keep on having fun with your son:P

If all else fails, slip a quarter in their hopper :dodgy: Works good.

is NOT an option. Please understand, once I adapted to the trigger, I was able to rip using either hand.

Although a skilled individual will take out an unskilled one, this marker has moved me up a class. Not only is it accurate, but it makes it quite easy to put multiple balls in a small area (yeah, OK, that dang kid with the Pirahna BL still took me out, but it was a freak accident, I swear:laugh: )

This is what I would like to end my initial impression with- in my opinion, once you get the feel of the Ratpulse, it is the equal of any marker I have had the pleasure to use. It may take some adjusting to, bit is well worth the effort.

Of course, maybe I'll get a timmy so's I can bother the people over there, do my own comparisons...no, wait- that Black Magic, or that Bushie, or that...

Sissy's!:)

You never quit until the ref tells me to leave (which is rare, seeing how I'm a super human being and don't get shot).

Tourney ball...refs are all over me since I'm always in places taking lots of heat. I don't have time to call myself out before they're pulling my band.

I'm one of the most honest players you'll find, I just talk smack.:)
