I'm taking my oldest son, he's 11, to the field this weekend. As most of you Whipper Snappers know, kids don't listen to their parents that well ... So, there's probably only so much I can tell him that he'll actually hear.

So, you Paintball Pros, what advice, pearls of wisdom or general knowledge can you give to the kid who's never been on a field before. Mind you, I'll probably print this stuff out and give it to him to read on the way to the field, so make sure you use that astrik key if ya just have to put a dirty word in.

Thanks

********** ************ ************. Whew.. now that thats over with.

The best advice I was given: once you acquire a target, and you decide to shoot, NEVER take more than 3 shots. (in a row) (This is respect to rental equip, if he's got a supergun, disregard.)

Reasons being; it will most likely take him more than one ball to hit someone. By the second shot, the target begins to realize they are being shot at, and by the third they know are looking for where the shot is coming from. If you take a forth, not only will the target have moved out of way, the hunter becomes the hunted.

This advice saved my fresh little hyde on my first day, and it also helped me to conserve my paint. Hope this helps!

Don't be afraid to fire. I've seen to many newbies let people walk right past them.

Muck Jr. had an excellant day on the field. It didn't rain and cleared up by 11 a.m. He played a little on the conservative side the first three games, and managed to take out three guys, one in each game. In the third game, I told him to stay in a bunker and cover me while I advanced to a bunker about 30 feet away. (From their I managed to take out three OpFor). This big dude on the other team finally got me out, and moved to the bunker where I was, but he didn't see Muck Jr, who yelled "Bye Bye Mister," and lit 'em up.

He got hit several times in the two games after that, and it scared him a little, so he sat out one game, but then got back in and did really well.

Thank's for giving him some pointers ... he read y'alls responses and took several of them to heart. Now he can't wait to get back on the field.

Again, thanks ... Stuff like this is what makes Paintball, a great sport, and Paintballers great people.

basiclly i follow 3 basic rules
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you dont want to shoot
- barrel plug is in until your playing the game
- goggles on at all times

funny thing I saw when I went paintballing recently at a near by paintball arena and I saw a kid maybe about 11 with a custom Bushmaster 2000. It was tricked out like you have never seen before , and I was in amazment that he had one and he is only 11 years old (I think) anyways the kid could hardly hold the gun so I think he was a little younger but man......I felt a little jealous after seeing probably the kid play a few games and he had probably about 2000 bucks in paintball gear so what I am trying to say is that it amazes me that paintball is reaching to the younger groups now..........

i know what you mean- i bet he doenst appreciate the gun as much as someone would if they put months of work and savings into getting the same gun. Im ride'n high with a $1300 cocker on air, but i had to work and save my @$$ off to get it. Ibesides that point- i started out small with my shutter and the point of going from an entry level gun to a tourney gun is to gain experience with that gun. Learn how they work, and learn to work on them- then i think once you do that its time to move to your next gun if you wanted too.

Amen, I mean it was sad, I watched this young kid who had this Expensive Cocker, all tricked, HPA tank, broomstick barrel, and it wasn't working, and he didn't know how to fix it, so he took it to his dad and just yelled, "It's not working again," and while his dad was doing his best to get it working, the kid was just stomping around complaining about how worthless the gun was ... Meanwhile, I'm sitting there putting a new O-ring on my tank and saying to myself, "If that were my kid, I'd whip his ***, and haul him home."

Hey Im a new user here but Id like to add a comment/question here. Im a paintball newbie, got my gun christmas, played rec ball in the woods and recently at a local field for the first time. Im 45 my son is 14 we both play together. OK so my comments.

I get tierd of waiting behind a bunker for action so I run to the action and look for targets. I got hit a few times but hit some people too. I think the one thing most of the new players do espessually the kids is sit and hide behind bunkers. They are afraid to run and charge up. But hey a freind I play with older than me with 10+ years expierince says " you cant play if you dont move". And I think he is right. You might not get hit, but your not really playing if you just sit and bunker behind a wall either. So I charge up and some times get hit, and sometimes hit others.

What do you all think? I think as you gain expierince you play more agresively also. Not much fun in hiding behind a wall, protecting some flag or someting the other team never even come to challenge.Maybe I get a little too impatient but hey I want to shoot someone, I get bored hiding and waiting all morning.

:D
I'm the same way ... I can't stand to sit behind something for more than a few minutes. If there is anyway I can rush the next bunker, I'm gonna find it.

well i know that at the field i play at there is 4-5 young kids 10-12 yrs old and they are very hard to get.not only that ,they have angels,3 of them and they use them very well.my son is 10 and he is one of those kids.they move faster than the 25 year old who smokes and is 15 pounds overweight.we are not rich but a lot of my sons angel came from his other goals he has reached.example......first place winner at 1998 los angelos open taequondo championships...first degree black belt at 8. very well in school,in class and on the playground...so next time you see little kid with big gun, don't assume just rich kid...some of them work very hard for this high priced marker,i know my son did.in one month he will be trying out for the junior olympics taequondo....all this at age 10.
