I would like to make my gun quieter without spending a pile of money. I have a Spyder compact 2000. Any suggestions

Well, whats making the noise? Tank pinging? get a cover. Bolt pinging? get a delrin bolt. Shots to loud? Get a better barrel. Paintballs rattling in the hopper? Stop moving. hehe .. you get the idea.. just narrow it down and if u still don't know.. post more info!

Depending on the reasons behind your gun being too loud, here are some ideas (some already mentioned).

If the noise is loud coming out of the barrel, get a longer barrel with more porting. (FYI going with a longer barrel will lower your efficiency).

If the tank is ringing, a neoprene tank cover should solve that problem.

Switching to lower pressure will also quiet your gun down. The downside to low pressure is that it will cost you a little bit of money and it also lowers your guns efficiency.

Just some thoughts, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Hmmm..... A spyder you say? A great pet peeve of mine is people who complain that after spending a large lump of money on their markers that they aren't quiet. A word to the wise, you will have to spend alot of money to sufficiently quite a spyder to the point where it will make a difference. I have yet to see a VERY quiet spyder. When I say VERY quiet, I'm talking James Bond Silencer type. The problem is that a Spyder is a open bolt gun, plain and simple. If you are concerned ONLY with stealth, get a closed bolt gun with a long ported barrel, tank cover and delrin bolt and it will make very little noise, comparitively. I know, I have a '97 cocker with a Shocktech superfly delrin bolt, 18" Boomstick, a neoprene tank cover and of course the most important part.......................(THIS POST HAS BEEN DELETED BY THE ASSOCIATION OF CREEPY PEOPLE IN DARK SUITS)

Creepy people in dark suits representing the association for the consipracy of closed bolt markers that is. You can get an open bolt gun very very quiet ,my timmy is open bolt and is one of the quetest guns I've ever seen, and yes I have seen cockers :) . Matrix is even quieter still, and it's also open bolt. I think the actualy blowback operation makes a good deal of the noise, but I honestly dont know. It's true though that I've never seen a particularly quiet spyder. Kinda odd

Is the bob long spyder venturi bolt any good

FloorED, how does LP lower your efficiency. I always thought it boosted it.

True enough, LP improves your efficiency. When I LP'd my cocker, my shots per ounce went up around 20-25 percent(optimistic)(more like 15-20 percent but I can hope can't I?) Hmmm......if indeed your "Timmy" is quiet, then it must have a very good seal around the hammer. My expierence with open bolts has been limited to Spyders, Pirahnnas, Tippmanns, *shudders* Brass Eagle and infernos (very good cheap marker). All those guns, even though we tried several different methods, would not quiet down. What decibel level does your Timmy put out. My cocker, in "full quiet mode" with 18" boomstick, tank cover, delrin bolt, rear block supressor and of course .......DELETED BY THE ACPIBS....... only put out per shot around 15 decibels as opposed to the stock cocker putting out around 55-60.

Decibels, I wish I knew. 180 psi firing pressure, and honestly the only sound you hear is the bolt pin rattling when you fire. Which is interesting, sounds pretty different from most other guns, instead of "pop-pop-pop" it's a metal on matal rattling sound. So yeah it's pretty quiet

That's basically the sound mine makes but if you are wearing a goggle system you can't hear it outside of an 8 foot radius.

When I say efficiency, I mean gas efficiency. A great example is the Shocker, which operates at about 180psi. Off of a 68ci 3000psi HPA tank you can usually get between 400-500 shots, most markers off of the same tank of air can get around 600-700 shots. An Automag is a good example of a higher pressure marker being more efficient. Simply put:

Shockers use low pressure and high volume
Automags use high pressure and low volume

Low pressure being more efficient has long been an urban legend.

Lower pressure operation is efficient (250 - 350psi). Once you start going for the REALLY low pressure such as the Shocker you start losing efficiency.
