magnetic trigger mod
does anyone have the exact procedures, pics, et cetera on how to do the Magnetic Trigger Mod ??i would really appreciate it!
I can possibly help.
But there's a problem I have to figure first. Do you have a Model 98 or a 98 Custom?
I can easily work with the M98, but I'm not too familiar w/ the 98C trigger and not sure if it has enough meat on it to do this modification.

The only difference between the 98 and 98C trigger is that the spring on the custom is on the front, pushing up, and on the 98 it's on the back pulling down.
Now, if you have a 98C, it's harder. Tell me what you have.
I would also like too know how to do the Magnetic Trigger Job. I have a 98 Custom.
Thanks:D

guys look at my sig ;)
(pssssst. its a custom) im willing however to go through w/ it:D
Ok, see the red part of the trigger in that pic? Well, cut that chunk out. But not necessarily that big, take off a little at a time.
And from there, epoxy one small magnet. And above that from where the trigger rests, you epoxy the other magnet onto the powertube. So in the triggers' resting position, they are either touching each other, or just barely not touching (like you can slide a piece of paper between).

What does the Magnetic Trigger Mod do?

I also had the question "Whats It do" -- anyhoo I have seen a Magnetic trigger mod where the magnets on the trig/reciever (Or wherever the other one is connected) are opposite poles causing the trigger to snap back together BUT I was thinking has anyone tried Using the same pols so they are constantly forced back? In theory There would be space between the Magnets and assuming that thay arent too powerfull and cause your gun to go Full auto That would drop your trigger pull to NOTHING..
But thats just my theory has anyone tried it?

Actually, if the magnets, for some reason, dont work, the sear will push into the shifting metal plate on the back of the trigger, so it wont fire until you release the trigger, at which point the sear will push the trigger back forward again. THEN, you have to pull the trigger a second time. So, in theory, you could take the trigger spring out of the98/98C, but you would have to fully release the trigger after firing, which would be bad.

IS this teh best trigger mod for the gun thought, wouldn't set screws and a new trigger spring work better? Anyone have comparisons?

The magnetic trigger mod works extremely well on the electro kits, especially on the the original 98's.
On the Custom you can set the magnets up so they oppose each other. To do that you just take out the stock spring and epoxy one of the magnets to the reciever where the bottom of the spring sits and the other magnet gets epoxied to the underside of the trigger where the old spring would hit. You must position the magnets to repell each other if you use them set up like that though.
The custom can still be set up like in Mephs diagram but you should still remove the trigger spring to get the full benifit.
What you end up with is a very light trigger with a lot of snap to it. It is very easey to rapid fire with it. I have had people compare my trigger with Angels and Matrix's. I personally think it feels a lot like the new magnetic impulse triggers. It just has this crispness to it that is hard to describe. Here's a pic os my set up. Sorry about the quality. I'm old as hell and a little shakey...

You can get the magnets here. Rare earth magnets (http://www.mscdirect.com/IWCatSectionView.process?Keyword=Y&RestartFlow=t&Merchant_Id=1&p_section_Id=2004746&Section_Id=2004746&p_product_type_Id=2208&ShowProductList=t&p_att_type_id_0=23854&p_att_value_id_0=6417&p_search_flag_0=1&SelectedAtt.length=1&pbegin=0&pcount=15&NameVector%5B0%5D.Name=Thickness&NameVector%5B0%5D.Value=.0600&NameVector.length=1&View.x.x=95&View.x.y=11)
The picture they show is not what you will get in the mail. In actuality the magnets are about 1/8" in diameter and 1/16" thick. They are VERY powerfull for thier size.

Sorry, I've been away for a while. My eight month old daughter is keeping me very busy. I got a new toy too...Bushmaster AR-15. Getting ready to start high power rifle competition. I'll be around. Play safe. Oh and the Uber-98 may be going up for sale...

i dont understand the point of the magnetic trigger because wont it cuase the trigger to be really hard to pull? or if u reverse the polarity wont the sear never catch the top of the trigger because the trigger would be pushed back?
Natural Newbie

The pull is light and snappy, feels angel like. And reversing the polarity (also change where the magnets mount) makes it act like a spring.

wait on the pic you have there is no spring. do you not need one? are the magnets that strong?
Natural Newbie
03-13-2003, 01:42 AM
Strong enough. Yet light enough. A Tippy will work fine with no trigger spring also, the magnets just give it a nice feel, and help the trigger return faster.

im considering doing that but im affraid the magnets will disrupt my ebolt circuit board.
Natural Newbie
03-13-2003, 06:53 PM
The mags won't disrupt it. The field they give off is miniscule. Lostinthewoods has an E-bolt and the mag trigger.

cool i guess if i made it myself it would be cheapr than sending it into mike at xci and havng him do it.
