I'm just wondering if the lower the pressure(operating, cycling0 the better?

Does higher pressure have any advantages?

there are a few schools of thought on the subject-- but I'll give you my impartial opinion... ;)

You have to give to get. If you've got an LP gun, it's gonna drink air. That's just the fact. If you have an HP gun, it will most likely be a little kinder on air consumption.

On my Palmer, the ram runs at about 60psi-- fairly high, but low compared to my 750psi input pressure. I know cocker guys running around 200psi input-- and aside from the loudness of the muzzle report (Mine :) ) we shoot pretty much the same--

I'll generally get more shots of the same size tank (notice all the LP guys seem to have 4500s?) and I'm probably more likely to pinch a ball if I shortstroke it (man, that will probably end up in a sig somewhere) but other than that, I've yet to notice a significant performance advantage.

I have a tennis ball cannon that will send a ball 200+ yards on 90psi-- of course, it takes about half a cubic foot of air to do it.

So as to the whole performance advantage of "softer" air hitting the ball (lower pressure, higher volume) I can't attest. Maybe on a boredom day I'll work my springs and valve and try to run lower presuure-- just to see what happens.

Low pressure is generally a good thing. It is supposed to make your shots more accurate (tighter groupings), and make your marker quieter. But it does suck air. I run my impy at about 130 psi, very quiet and pretty accurate.

The thought goes that a lower operating pressure is gentler on paint, and a lower cycling pressure helps eliminate chopping. Personally, I have seen plenty of Impulses and Free Flow cockers chop, so I'm not really down with that low cycling pressure theory. I don't really care much about operating pressure either, seems to me that paint/barrel match has more influence on your paint breakage than anything else.

Dr. Isotope, I have to only partially agree with you. There are guns out now that are low pressure to reap the supposed benefits of breaking less paint. Guns like the shocker and matrix come to mind, and these guns are gashogs. However, setting up a gun like a cocker for EFFICENCY will also net you a low low operating pressure in many cases. There are tons of players out there running cockers at 150 PSI or so while getting 1200 shots out of a 68/3000 tank.

On most guns, yes. The Excalibur and Viking are very low pressure buy are more effiecient than most markers...only being beaten by higher end cockers, pumps etc. The Impulse isn't too bad on gas either.

Also, alot of people tell me that Mags and Blowback break more because they are higher pressure? Can anyone verify?

I have heard the claims of increased efficiency running LP, so I've decided to get the full AKA kit (hammer, springs, valve, bolt, etc) for my Sniper II. I want to see if I can get that type of efficiency myself.

Hopefully I am successful in my tinkering. :)

they break alot because people use co2 on them, plus there mostly n00b guns so they arnt taken care of right...

The excal / viking are some of the most LP and efficiant barrels out there.. with a cycle pressure of 55-70 when broken in, and still gettin 1800 shots off a 68/45
