Is a neck protector truly that important?

I was looking at Paintball magazine and I saw an ad for a neck collar-type-thing that is supposed to protect your neck from paintballs. I have never worn one,or seen anyone wearing one of these contraptions, but I am now curious, is it important and how many of you wear them?

I'm of the "important but don't wear one" opinion. Took 2 balls in the throat one game. Somehow they snuck around the side of my mask. After regaining consciousness and stumbling off the field, I developed the world's worst hickey for 3 days. Anyway, now I just wear cammies with a high stiff collar, so it's all good.

I pro-portection of vital parts of your body. I feel that getting hit in the neck is a very bad thing, and try to protect myself from getting hit there. I also wear a hat to protect the back of my neck.

A neck protector is not necessary, but if you do get hit by a paintball it will really lessen the blow. I dont get hit that much in the neck, so I dont want to get so hot when wearing it.

Well, its not that IMPORTANT but the other day i took about 5-6 balls up the side of the neck when in a bunker, and it realy hurt but i still dont wear neck protectors.

I'm with the majority here, I think that a neck protector is a good thing. The neck protector will soften the blow of a paintball, but honestly I don't wear one. I think they would just be uncomfortable and I would probably get too hot.

Not the regular spectra because I have one and maybe a inch shows (not that much) I have heard a guy awhile back has died from being shot in the front of the throat. Thats all i know about it and yes i have a neck protecter from hearing that.

With the high velocities the paintballs shoot at, it's a wonder more people aren't killed in such a manner. Have you touched your throat reecently? It's not exactly designed to take punishment. Heck, just being flicked in the throat hurts sometimes. Just imagine a paintball shot from ten feet away hitting you there. I have decided that I will wear a neck protector from this point on. Looking cool is not nearly as important as being able to breathe on my own and being alive. As for you people without them... lets just hope I don't see you listed in the obituaries some day because you were 'too cool' to wear one.

The main thing that I believe that a neck protector would prtect is the sides and back of the neck that are expsose from under the neck... I got shot unce right under the ear... man that hurt.

i guess a throat protector would be smart. because if you got nailed in the adam's apple.... man that would hurt a crap load. i'm one of the ppl who think it is important but don't have one. i guess i'm too lazy to actually get one at this point. maybe getting shot in the neck a couple times will convince me to get one.

i wear a neck protector, i say get one it only cost like $10, and besides imo - any bounce you can get, to stay in the game will help not only you out, but your team....

i also have forearm/elbow pads, knee/skin guards, slider shorts w/ a rubber cup... i wear these because like i said above any bounce will help me out to stay in the game longer...

I wear a JT neck Protector.

put it this way. getting hit in the neck without one is going to hurt. The neck protector just lessens impact. it won't hurt nearly as much

you can pick up the neck protector for like less then $10. it's cheap! just get it anyways
