So many barrels are geared for hype. PORTING PORTING PORTING.

Alot of aftermarket barrels are half filled with holes, and people think its the way to go. Sure, ther're really qiet and people can bairly hear it from 60 feet away. But do you really care weather someone can hear your gun while in an open firefight?

True, some people want to make thier marker quieter. So they choose either a longer (14-16" or longer!) or one with alot of porting, usually a combonation of both. Buying a 16" barrel half full of holes will be a great improvment over a stop 10" barrel that might have come with your spyder, but it will degrade on alot of other things as well.

1. After about 16" a barrel is a waste of gas. It takes about 8-10" for a paintball to get up to speed. So a 16" barrel with 8" of porting would be ok. Anything more than 16" would cause excess friction, acually slowing the ball. To balance that you'd have to crank up the gas...making it extremly ineficiant.

2. Anything lower than 12" would be very loud and inacurate. I'm not saying its impossible to make a 10" barrel acurate, but if you did make one there would only be 2 inches of porting, which would make it loud. Even then it shouldn't be the ideal length for the average Paintballer.

3. 14" is probably the best of both worlds. The Ideal barrel for low noise and high acuracy would be 14" long, with 4 and a half inches of LARGE porting, allowing the gas to escape quikly, making for more consistent shots and easy cleaning - while still giving the ball enough length to maintain a steady acurate tragectory.

This is just my thoughts on the Barrel thing. I could be wrong about some or all of what I said...but oh well
