Why are you going to strip the black off your M98?

If you're going to paint it, just use lots of coats of that color, same with polishing.

here is what i find easiest (i strip paint off model 98s fairly often)

1. Try some sort of wire brush....preferably with brass wires, they work wonders

2. On the older ones the paint seems to be harder, so a wire brush wont do it alone...at this point i reccomend just soaking the receivers in paint stripper (MAKE SURE TO TAKE OUT THE INTERNALS FIRST!)

3. Then use a wire brush again...it should take most of the paint off

4. Or...I have a grinder, which i can replace the wheel with a wire wheel, that works great also

5. Once you get the bulk off with a wire brush, finish it off with steel wool or sand paper

Hope that helps :)

I would go ahead and get a dremmel tool. They aren't much, and with that joker you can do any mod you want. Later, get the little drill-press atatchment for vent mods and such. For stripping and polishing, get the wire wheels. They will eat that stuff off like magic. I would suggest getting about 10 of them. Then use the wide polish bit, and the ones that come with it, and get some good metal polish. It will gleem. Although I did not do the outside, I did do that to the internal halves, and it took about 1 hour, and that was on an older one, then I took out the gills and with the dremmel and patience I did the whole gill mod (only 1st 2 on mine) in under an hour including polishing them.
