Hey just went to the tippmann web page and saw that I could buy an upgrade to convert my gun to the custom. Just wonder if that upgrade was worth it, if anyone had done it, and their experience with it..

Thanks,

you can't really "convert" your gun to a 98custom...what ur talking about is if u send in $120 plus your model 98, tippmann will send u back a 98custom with Responce trigger..pretty nice.

But you also have the option to do it yourself... so its not like they give you a brand new one... anyway do you think the upgrade is worth it?... i mean, the only difference between the custom and the 98 is that its more upgradable and the r/t i dont even think is tourne legal...

From what i understand about the upgrade process, you send in your old m98, and they give you a brand new 98c with the response trigger. You dont get the original gun back. (so obviously you'll want to take out whatever upgrades you may have already dropped into it, and revert the gun to it's out-of-the-box condition)

To me, it doesnt seem like a bad deal, especially if your old M98 is kinda beat up, or you want to be able to upgrade further without having to do all kinds of intricate body work and milling.

And i'm not sure about this, but i think most tournaments allow the RT upgrade, as long as you have it locked down. i think the newer versions have a means of making it tamper-proof for tournament purposes. but again, i'm not sure about that.

the rt is legal, for its not automatic, it just uses blowback gas to reset the trigger faster so you can pull it faster...

i dont think it is worth it

almost any upgrade for a 98c fits on a m98

except the response trigger

i have a m98 and i put many upgrades on it.

there isnt much differnce between them

If you just purchased new reciever halves, would that be the same as upgrading? I read in one of these forums that reciever halves only cost $25. It seems this might be the way to go if the reciever halves are the only thing different between the two guns.

Maybe Tippman takes the parts from your old gun and reinstalls them into 98 Custom reciever halves; same parts just new body?????

yes it is the same as upgrading, i gave tippmann a ring and they said that it would be fully upgradable just like the 98c and the reciever halfs were 65 bucks...

What upgrades does the 98 Custom except that the Model 98 won't besides the RT kit?

Wow, for an additional $55 you can get a RT kit with it; that's a good deal. I'd think twice before turning that down.

a 2x trigger. you have to know how to mill in order to install the 2xstall. the trigger gaurd is built in on the m98.

The problem with just buying the reciever halves and switching the guts is that the Model 98 and the Custom 98 have different triggers. You'd have to also buy a trigger, all the trigger pins, and the trigger springs. I don't know how much all that would cost with the reciever halves, but it's probably the same as doing the $65 upgrade at Tippmann.

Just thought you guys should know that.

Also, the Model 98 will not accept the electro kit, RT kit, or a double trigger. However, Tippmann is able to install those upgrades into a M98 body. They will do all the milling and anything else. I don't know if it costs anything (you just have to pay S+H and send them your gun and the kit you want installed), since I am able to drop everything into my Custom 98.
