The on/off valve looks like a knob on your tank. To turn off your tank you simply turn the knob. If you did not purchase an on off tank, it will not have one on there. It is normal for gas to come out of your tank while you are removing it from your marker.

Can you buy an on/off valve by itself, and use it on any tank you want?

Yea when you turn the on/off valve off there still goning to be gas in the gun to don't worry if some gas comes out.
Dog I think you have to be cetified or skilled even to change the damn thing.

Yeah, you should be a certified airsmith. If you should not be installing any valves. It could be VERY dangerous if you do it incorrectly. Potential for an exploding tank and death.... Be careful if you think about it.

What I meant was, a piece that screws into the bottomline, and you screw the tank into it. Put a piece between the bottomline and the tank w/ an on/off valve. I didn't mean I wanted to alter the tank in any way.

Yes the blow pin would protect you from explosion and DEATH lol unless you messed with it.

If you wanted to know what one looked like, here's one. This is an FX on/off valve.

Yes the black thing is the valve. Usually you need to go to a paintball store to purchase and install one. My experience is that they tend to leak after a period of time.
There is a potential that if a valve is installed incorrectly you could have one of several things happen.
1. Usually it will just leak.
2. Burst disk may rupture.
3. Valve might shoot off.
4. Tank could explode. This would happen if the burst disk failed to break when pressure is too high.
Chances of tank exploding are slim, but do you really want to take that chance?

No matter what you do air is gonna come out.

There are a couple of things that you can do to save some CO2 and save your o rings.
1. when removing the tank twist a couple of times until you think you are reaching the point that the tank is going to come off. Then fire 1-2 shots. Twist another 1/4 turn and shoot a couple more. Do this until you twist the tank off. This will save your orings.
2. when the tank starts to spew CO2, start firing your marker as your twist the tank off. This will also save some CO2.
Couple of things to keep in mind. No matter what you will lose some CO2. That is normal. When you are removing the tank, twist fast, when there is only 1 point were you will lose gas once you get past that point the pin valve with close. The fast it closes, the faster you will stop losing gas.

I find it hard to pull the trigger while untwisting the tank....anyways I have slow reflexes so when I take it off it sprays like crazy! more than my friends' guns which makes me look bad since after every 300 balls I fire I have to go refill and im poor so I have to stop that :D!

Then you can do 2 things. Try out the first technique. That way you dont twist while you shoot. you twist then shoot, then twist then shoot. Easier.
Or- practice makes perfect! Keep on trying to do it the other way until you master it.
