my bday was ystrday and i got a hefty amount of money...im considering nitro for my gun, but i DONT want to get the low pressure kit yet...is this ok? if i get nitro will my tippmann still perform well?

Yea it will perform great, as long as you a n2 tank with a psi output in the neighborhood of 800-850. This is the normal operating pressure of a tippmann.
Crossfire, centerflag, and pmi all make excellent preset tanks that will work well with your tippmann.

I have a crossfire 51/3000 and so far it's been ok in the backyard..haven't gotten to use it in an actual game, but from what i'm seeing, my gun still works fine and the consistency is there.

Yah, he's my friend...he's just jealous cause he has a crappy jt excellerator! He laughed at me when I said I was getting a nitro tank, he told me "You gotta have the lp kit or else it won't work" It'll break your tippmann...let's just say it's still workin.

Hey my nitro tank is in the mail. After I use it during a few games on my mag I will see how the tippmann does. So far from what I have heard nitro helps basically every marker.

It really does. I have a 68/4500 Crossfire that I use on my cocker. It has a preset output pressure of 450psi. I put it on my wife's Tippmann (the old 98), expecting it to not work at all (pressure too low) but it did. I could not get the velocity above 250 fps, but it still shot good. It was also very consistent. I believe that if I experiment with the springs, I can get it up there to 300fps.
All the Low Pressure kit does is make it so you can use a pressure of between 300 and 400psi. It increases your shots per fill too, but you have to have a regulator and you must use compressed air. With my experiment above, I have no idea how many shots per tank I would get running at 450psi when it's designed to run at roughly 800psi, but I would guess I wouldn't get as many. If you run the gun at 700-850psi on compressed air, you don't need the Low Pressure kit at all. It will give you the same efficiency as running on CO2 (maybe even better, because it will certainly make your shot-to-shot velocity more consistent).

I have a preset 800 and it does the same. It's quite a disadvtange during woods play. If you've fixed the problem, please tell me what you did!

Actually, there was no problem at all. The gun, as it comes from the factory, is set to work off of around 800psi. My Nitro tank has a preset output of 450psi, which is too low for the current setup. It only opens the valve enough to get the ball going 250fps. One thing I could do is lighten the valve spring but it may not have much of an effect. I could also get a stiffer drive spring. That would do the trick, but the gun is still going to be a gas hog at 450psi. If you really want to go low-pressure without buying the kit and without making it a gas hog, you will have to lighten the hammer (or rear bolt in Tippmann lingo), change both the valve spring and the drive spring, and maybe add a low-pressure chamber. You will have to experiment with springs to find out what works best. Also, you will have to take your vertical adapter and drill/tap a hole to mount a low-pressure chamber right in the part that screws into the valve. An expansion chamber can serve as a low-pressure chamber. If you take your time and experiment, you can match the performance of the kit Tippmann sells. You'd save quite a bit of money. Remember: you're paying for the research and testing when you buy the kit.
Good luck!

Thank you, Raid. I may fool around with the springs some. I have one more test to perform on my gun before I do, however. I have heard my expansion chamber may be too restrictive for nitrogen, like it is only letting sub 800 PSI to the valve (?). I have never taken out the ex. chamber and vert. adapter since I went nitro because it was enough of a hassle to get the adapter on in the first place (and trust me, it's on there TIGHT). I'm just going to shoot the gun with the tank screwed into the vert. adapter and see if I can shoot 280-290. If I can't, then I hope a stiffer drive spring will help.

The expansion chamber is perfectly fine with Nitrogen. The only thing that determines how restrictive something is to airflow is the size of the hole the air has to pass through. This goes for any gas, so if it works with CO2, it will definately work with compressed air/nitrogen. As for pressure . . . the only way to stop pressure from building up past a certain point is to completely stop the flow (which is exactly what a regulator does). If your expansion chamber and/or gun could contain the pressure without blowing up first, you could pressurize it to any pressure. A hole that is restrictive (small) does not limit how high the pressure can build to. It limits how fast the pressure can build up. See what I mean? This is why we look for good regulators. If we get a slow-charging regulator (restrictive - doesn't allow the pressure to build up fast enough), we get shootdown (velocity drops with each shot) as we rapid-fire. If we get a regulator with a fast recharge rate, it allows the pressure to build up to the desired (or set) level in between each trigger pull.

Hmmm :eyes:
So, should I "experiment" with the springs? I need some pointers.
