Those would be airsoft guns, not paintball guns. They are chambered for 6mm plastic bb's, they also make 6mm paintballs for airsoft.
Yep, that's definitely an airsoft gun. For those who don't know, airsoft guns are made to be exact replicas of real guns, and they're used for props in movies, police training, etc. But nowadays they are also often used for wargames, just like paintball. They traditionally shoot little 6mm plastic pellets, but they can also shoot 6mm paintballs. They can be spring powered, red or green gas powered, or battery powered. The spring ones are mostly pistols and other small arms, but they are only single action. The gas ones are mostly pistols too, but they are semi auto. The electros are the big ones, with machine guns, sub machine guns, sniper rifles, etc. There is an airsoft for almost everything. They even have shotguns with little shells that you fill with airsoft pellets so it shoots like a normal shotgun ! Some examples of airsoft guns are Desert Eagles, Glocks, MP5's, PSG-1 sniper rifles, Spas Shotguns, FA-MAS machine guns, and AK-47's.
Here's a question, if you had a weak airsoft with paintballs, would a pb field let you play ? Probably not, just asking. Foe more info, go to http://www.airsoftzone.com. Hope this helps.

No paintball field that I know of would ever let someone use a airsoft gun against paintball guns.
I have never heard of any police department using airsoft to train with. Airsoft bb's are to small to feel under body armor. Must departments use simunition and a few use paintball.
What does the armor matter ? Anyway, they use the all metal ones so they can get the feel of the gun's weight, shape, etc. Shooting a PB gun doesn't have the feel of a real gun. This may have been police in Japan, I'm not sure, but that's where airsoft started, and its a lot more popular over there.
Here we go. This airsoft store tells about the uses of airsoft for law enforcement, and even lists the police departments they supply. Click the movie/law section.

Look, I am in law enforcement. Airsoft does not work very good for police training at all. Paintball works ok but not really that practical compared to simunition. We would never use airsoft for our SWAT team, the stuff may look real and feel the weight but they do not shoot anything like a real gun. Out of all the guys I know from other departments NONE of them use airsoft, all of them have tried paintball and a lot have simunition. Simunition allows you to use real firearms and gunpowder.
So don't tell me that airsoft is what police train with.
I did not say YOU use it, or YOUR department uses it, or every department in America uses it, or that it was good for training, heck if I know. I am just saying that it IS used. Did you go to the site ? Is this store lying ? If you won't go there I'lll just put it here:
"Airsoft Guns are Ideal For Law Enforcement Training.
Airsoft guns provide a safe and effective way for law enforcement members and other firearm handlers to train. They are fashioned in 1:1 scale, so that they are the exact size of their real counterparts. Even though they are considerably lighter, they are none the less extremely durable. Most of these airguns can also be field stripped in the same manner as their real counterparts; This helps to familiarize students with the construction and the feel of real firearms. Airsoft guns are also much quieter than real firearms. As a result, there is no need for ear protection while training, making it easier for both instructors and students to communicate. Since they can only fire plastic BBs, Airsoft guns are much safer than real guns in training situations. Eye protection is however, still required.
Besides being safer, BBs have several training advantages over blank, live, or even training (wax) ammunition: they are extremely inexpensive in comparison to other types of ammunition, they are bio-degradeable, and when used for tactical training, unlike other ammunition, BBs do not leave marks. This means that the life expectancy of tactical gear can be drastically increased simply by the use of BBs.
Airsoft guns offer students increased safety and yet still provide the feel of training with a real firearm not just because of the scale and look, but also because AEG's (Automatic Electric Airguns) are capable of firing in semi, burst, or fully automatic. In addition, because of their 1:1 scale, REAL tactical accessories (such as Surefire flashlights) can be fitted onto Airsoft guns.
We are suppliers for:
The Criminal Justice Training commission of Washington
Selenas Police Department
Metro Dade Police Department
Hollywood Police Department
Salinas Police Department
Seattle Police Department
New Mexico Police Department"
Whether or not they're your preferred training style, they are for some, and that's all I was saying.

That wasn't my point, I know a few departments HAVE used it. But the store is lying when it says it is ideal fo law enforcement use. I did go to the website before posting. Please do not come here acusing me of posting without reading that site. I do know what i am talking about when i talk about law enforcement.
I'm not trying to make any enemies or anything (esp. w/ a mod ;)) and I trust your knowledge of law enforcement training since you are experienced in it, but it sounded like you were trying to say that no dept.'s used airsoft. Yeah, I know the article is mostly their propaganda, the main focus was at the bottom where it lists the dept.'s where they use it, thus proving that it is used. I did kind of word part of it badly, I didn't know if you went there or not. But where you said "so don't tell me that airsoft is what police train with" yet the link had dept.'s listed where they train with it, sent the message you didn't read it.
