doesn't matter where the on/off is as long as it keeps the air from going straight into the gun
with a bottomline Maxflo i think you have to use an On/Off or risk shocking the solenoid (are the new BL maxflos fixed to stop this?)
the vert max flow doesn't require an on/off, but it's better i think because then you don't risk shocking the solenoid

i will get it on my tank then. but how can it shock it if it is first going through a regulator?

well going from 0psi to 180psi can still shock it...i myself am not sure why there is a difference between a BL and vert maxflo
legend could probably give a FULL technical description of everything and why

so when you screw in your tank, you keep the on/off valve in the off possition and gradually open it up?

im guessing, most on/offs are a 1/4 turn...so i GUESS you just turn the on/off on VERY slowly and the air slowly goes in....

With the new style max flows you can screw in a preset and it will be fine. I know of people who do it. But when you screw in a preset do it slowly. I hear throwing an extra o ring in the asa can help too, but i dont know. You can get an on/off just to be 100% sure but the solenoid shocking was just a thing that happened on old style shockers.

i dont use a on/off, right before i screw in my nitro tank, i just turn my vert max flo down to like 60psi then gradually turn it up. yes it takes work, but if u want to save the money on not getting a on/off just do what i do:D
