How does the length of a barrel affect its performance?
I mean is it longer = more range?
longer = more accurage?
longer = just longer?
debating over a 12 inch terminator and an 14 inch terminator..

between 12 and 14... not much difference, that is range is usually adequate.
longer = more accurate
longer = use more gas
longer = more chance for ball break in barrel
longer not = more range

longer also = more quiet right?

if the barrel is ported, then yes. you also have to take into consideration, the port design. but in most cases it's a bit quieter. it's also easier to sight down the barrel, with a longer barrel. remember that the length of a barrel has no direct effect on range

All you really need are 8 inches. Hence why most pros use 10's or 12 max when in competition. Physics states that anything after 8 is just mental. But yes, it does help you aim, and yes, you become more of a gas hog.

alos, raised velocity, more time for gas to expand behind the ball so it goes fater

I agree with Speed on this one. Dye did some testing and they found out all you need to get the best accuracy is only with 6.5 inches or somewhere around that length. If you notice like in the boomsticks, the backend is the only thing that really touches the paintball. The length is used for muffling out the sound. Lenght does not matter on accuracy. I prefer 10 inch barrels except when we play on a Sup air field because with a longer barrel, i can poke into the ballon baracade more and have it form around the barrel. But when we play speedball at the tourneys, give me my 10 inch boom rod and i am ready to rock. hope this helps

Pretty much everyone is correct on this own. The length of the barrel does not affect the flight. If the barrel has full length porting then it will quiet it down, however, with more porting you do waste a TON of air. 10-12 is the best length because the ball only uses 6.5" of the barrel. Keep it short you won't be dissapointed.

Actually, the ball can use more barrel length to accelerate depending on the pressure and velocity the marker is set at.
