Is there a real difference?

yes! the length
a 14 inch may be a little less efficent on air but thats about it, but 14 inchers provide a little more room for porting giving you a quieter gun as a trade-off.

but does 14'' have anymore range?

nope. anything after 12 provides no extra advantages except for quietness. i actually prefer 8-10 inches

14 inches is going to slightly slow the ball down more than a 12 as well. Also its going to be a little more of a gas hog.

10-14 is the optimal length...which you choose is personal choice...no major performance change.

I read somewhere that the ideal length is 11 to 11.5 inches

it's somewhere between 10-14....

It's not about length, it's about effective length, you *******es!!! You want you barrel to be 8-10 inches unported and 4-6 inches ported. Go to the Airgun Designs website. Tom Kaye figured it all out. He also talks about ball to barrel fit. That helps decide accuracy and quietness too.

This dood is craaaazy! Look no over 12. No less than 12. JUST GET 12! Its not that hard. No longer. Length only messes you up after 12. Honing/inside is most important. Look im sick of repeating myself on barrel matters. Most are the same. I think we are all sick of the age old question "WHICH IS THE BEST BARREL?" Please stop asking this ppl. Thanks.

Why its not gonna give you more range.... Well maybe but not more than a 12. More than a 10 though maybe.

It will slow it down more and more the bigger you go. And the more bigger you go also the more gas hog. You tell me if thats messed up. I dont know what you think messed up is. But over 12 isnt going to help.

it wont help, but it wont mess you up...i even have a solution!
maintain speed: put end of barrel over chrono, adjust velocity :D

and amz might want longer for back because for some people it is easier to point with a longer barrel.

Yea some people like that ive heard. But also you said about the adjusting velocity... Its going to be more of a gas hog.

DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RANGE AND ACCURACY!
Try and stay with me on this one. A paintball needs time to accelerate to it's maximum speed. Since there is friction, it can be too long. 6 - 10 inches depending on many variables of EFFECTIVE LENGTH. The effective length is the length of the barrel before porting or muzzle break. This is because the pressure is released ceasing the acceleration.
It depends on what barrel you get on if there will be a different. A Lapco Bigshot has effective length until 3 inches from the end, but on other barrels, it may be 8 inches of effective length than porting no matter how long the total length of the barrel is. Here's a chart:
(These aren't true, just examples ;))
Barrel.............Length.........Effective length...Porting length
Bigshot..........12................9.............. .........3
Bigshot..........14................11............. ........3
Bigshot..........16................13............. ........3
All American...12................6.................... ..6
All American...14................6.................... ..8
All American...16................6.................... ..10
The closer the effective length to 8 inches, the more range. The longer the porting length, the quieter.
A barrel with 8 inches of effective length will have the most range so a 18" Bigshot will have horrible range, but a 18" All American will have good range.
Hope that helps ya.

longer than 12 inches will mess you up.
the less impurities in a barrel the better accuracy, the longer the barrel is going to be the more impurities in it, so less accuracy.
the best barrel should have 8-12 inches of effective length.
