hey i got a 98c about a month ago and when i went to the paintball shop near me they told me that all u had to do to clean it was to put the co2 to fill all the chambers with air, and then just take a hose and soak the whole gun. after that u dry fire it a few times, dry it off, oil it on the bolt and in the asa, and then dry fire another dozen times with your hand over the end of the gun so the parts all get oiled. this has worked really well and quickly so far but im wondering if itll do any harm to the gun or if i should clean it differently.

I seriously suggest not to clean a paintball gun w/ water. It may seem fine now but in the long run, some parts may rust or become brittle. What I do is just take out everything and wipe off all the parts to remove the old oil from causing rust and then put new oil in. I've been doing this for over a year and it takes a metal a couple of days to rust. My gun works great.

its a tippmann it can handle it....... well, try putting a few drops of oil in the asa, and wipe down the rest, maybe lube some of the internals a bit, but other then that, leave it, i suggest against water.....

now that i think bout it, i dunno, might work, just make sure after u put water all over it u oil it before use...... otherwise i think dat be BAD - might work, if the shopgave you the idea, it prolly should work, after all, its a tippmann

What is the ASA again i forgot.

i was told just to open up the gun and lube every o-ring and wipe everything down. i was also told you could use water on the outside but not on the inside.

i use a damp towel and wipe all the parts that have oil on them. Examples are the front and rear bolts, the bolt connector thing, and all the moving parts. Then i re-oil everything. lastly i put a few oil drops in the tank adapter hole and fire about 20 dry shots with the barrel OFF. u dont want oil in ur barrel.

There are so many people that say you should and shouldn't do things so all I do is what it tells me to in the instruction manual.

Wipe down all the parts to clean them off and oil your front boil, rear bolt, and linking arm.

After that you should be fine.

ok thanx, but does this mean after every time i use the gun i gotta take it apart and have springs fly everywhere and then have to read the tiny picture in the manual to put it back together?

when in meant don't clean it with water, i meant don't submerse a fully assembled gun into a tub of water. i rinse off the two recievers, but not my assembled marker.

when the manual says wipe down do they want to you wipe off all the old oil on the parts and re apply new oil?

When you open the marker up nothing should fly anywhere. All you have to do is use something like a paper towel and wipe dirt and paintball that got inside the gun off as well as the old oil. Then put a little oil on you finger and rub it on the back bolt the front bolt and the linking arm. Then you just put the other reciever half back on and the screws back in. The only things you might need to take out is the end cap so you can slide the back bolt out to get oil on the other side of the back bold and front bold. You should also have an easy time getting it back together as long as you keep everything where it belongs.

When you open the gun up you should be able to figure out how it all goes back together anyway. It isn't really all that complicated.

the only spring that u have to watch out for is the front sight spring. But usually it doesnt fly off.

lol, I had my gun for about 3-4 month's before I even noticed there was a spring in there and that the elbo could fold down!

It is hard to get that spring back in but it wont come out unless you lift up your front sight. The spring I think you need to watch out for is the trigger spring but there isn't that much tension on it so it should stay in there.
