Ok, I have been Paintballing for a month now. I use my friends old Stingray. I saved up and bought all the gear (9oz, mask, camo, etc.). Now i need a new gun. I have been looking at the Spyder Compact 2000 for $88 and upgrading it with better barrel and an expansion chamber. I have heard a lot of good stuff but also some really bad stuff about the compact. People have been telling me to go for the Piranha Pro or EXT, which are like $80 more. I am pretty poor, a sophmore in high school and only work part time. I want a good gun but i only play on the weekends and dont want to go overboard. What gun should i go with???

i got a piranha PRO i like it..i would have to say way better then a spyder i shot a spyder compact i dont like it really..and with the piranha you have the expansion chamber already there..you just need to get a new barrel.then you will be set..when you dont need to be rich to own a piranha or a spyder.i go every weekend my self.

You'll hear psychos on either side of this one. I owned both. I would recommend the Pirahna STS..or PRO if you can afford it. The main reason would be that they are a little easier to field strip. They have a little sear release on the side to help you get the bolt in. I have seen a lot of spyder owners take awhile to figure that one out. The compact...at least the one I had, did not have a field strip pin..they make it so you can slide the bolt out with the removal of one pin, and they are side cocking which allows dirt in the gun. The old spyders where kinda difficult to take appart. If you insist on a spyder..and this is JUST MY OPINION....avoid the shutter. It has upgrades that make no sense(like an expansion chamber after the reg.) Go with the TL. You can upgrade youself with the money that you save and be much happier.

The spyder 2000 is also a great gun to begin upgrading on.. With the lousy regulator issue.. easily solved by an remote coil though... hehe also you can snag them online for about $130

It's really gonna come down to your personal preference. I was considering a Spyder TL but went with the Piranah STS G2 cause it seemed to be put together a little better, was less expensive and is extremely easy to strip and clean (no tools required). However, I think the Piranah VTL or BTL is gonna be closer to the Spyder compact.

The new Spyder 2000 has a simple pin in it, that allows quick removal of the Bolt assembly and cocking mechanism, allows VERY fast access to everything..

If i can get a GOOD digital pic off my camera I will up load pics of field striping a Spyder 2000

The Piranahs have the same thing, push out the pin, pullout the cocking knob and velocity adjuster ... very easy ... no tools required.

the piranhas come with a gas through grip not an expansion chamber .i just had a piranha pro and its a nice gun but not worth the money in my eyes. if i where you i would get a piranha bottom line (bl) and get a ex chamber later on the bl s cost between 115 and 140 it depends on where you go. but pmi the maufactorer is very good to ther customers and the guns work good . one other thing my friend phaelon is selling his piranha go to the buy and sell forum its a very good deal for a gun and his is asking around 200 but its negotiable

I wasn't sure about that. I just said the on that I had. The one thing that they don't have is the push button sear release to make putting it back together easier. Some people have problems with that.

The main reason you would get the pro is the verticle feed. If you want the expansion chamber. You can buy one and put it on later. There is also a pirahna that comes with a pure energy on it. I can't think of what it is called right now. I wouldn't get the PRO either. For the 300 you spend on that you can spend 40 more and get yourself a cocker, but for the one that I saw in selling...200 looks like a good deal.

Piranha PSI I think.

Well, Piranhas are good guns and so are spyders. both are easily upgradeable. Piranhas are easier to take apart and reassemble(sear release is a God send) and most problems(on both guns) are easy to fix.

Well I use a piranha. Bought a VTL G1 and upgraded it as I wanted to. Its a good gun, and it does me well. Good luck on your choice.

Yeah that one in selling does look like a good deal especially seeing that he dropped the price 50 bucks....
so instead of being 200.00 he's selling it for 150.00

My friend owns a Piranha VTL and one of the thing that I noticed is that the trigger frame as well as the trigger are made of plastic. He has owned his gun for less then a year and has already had his trigger **** itself. The VTL also seems to have a tendancy to sputter and burp alot, I don't know about the Piranha Pro but I would stick with Spyder.

PB Ninja. Some of the older piranhas had problems with the sears and that could be a reason with the sputtering and burping. PMI is replacing sears for free on those situations.

I have VTL G1. My little brother has a VTL G2 and we dont have any problems with it or mine.

The trigger and trigger frame are easily upgraded ... As for burbing guns ... I hear an awful lot of Spyders, Cockers, and other guns come down with a bad case of "gas," pardon the pun.

When you're looking at entry level and amateur grade guns, you're gonna get hiccups, again, pardon the pun.

When it comes down to it, what motivates people to spend bucks on a marker, or anything else, is (1) $$$$$$ cost $$$$$, (2) Value - the best I can get for the money, and (3) How it looks.

I know you'll happy with a Piranah ... I know people who own Spyders who'll say the same thing ... Go with what ya like.

Go with the spyder, do you want something that is really easy to field strip or something that strips ok and performs well. I have the Tl plus and the compact 2k and if you are going to upgrade the barrel then the 2k is your gun.

ok the spyder has 3 screws to take out to get to the bolt and striker. and the sear release on the pmi is nice but not needed all you have to do with a spyder is push in the bolt and striker and pull the triger that will get the gun bake toghether . also all the piranhas have a sear problem . they tend to wear down fast and need to be replaced thats all piranhas not just the old ones . i have had a pmi piranha pro , i have a spyder standerd and i have a cocker. the piranhas are just as good as the spyders and they look better in my eyes but preformance ther the same the only draw backs to the piranhas is the sear. but pmi will give you a new one if it breaks or wears down. go with what you like if you dont whant to have to replace the sear dont get a piranha but it is not hard to do for even a beginer

i would go with the spyder all the way. the pihranah's plastic trigger frame is so cheap i can pull the trigger while its on safety! Spyder all the way.

go with a TL Plus. It is fairly upgraded stock to stay like that for a while, wiht maybe only a barrel upgrade. ALso, the Tl has ALOT of potential, with a wide variety of aftermarket accessories. Furthermore, the TL is a very reliable gun to use. ALso, the stock trigger frame is great. it is a metal 45 grip frame with double trigger.ANd it's really easy to do a trigger job. I worked on my internals for a couple of hours..and i got my trigger pull down to less than 1/4 of an inch. So yeah, go with the TL plus. I'm not saying it's a perfect gun, no it's far from perfect, but it's a good gun to get if you don't want to change it for a while because it will grow with you. I have had my gun for a year and a half, and now i still use that gun, and keep up with teh cockers and mags. In conclusino...
GET A TL PLUS~!! :D :)

Spyder end of story. I have an SE my friend has a TL plus and a third friend has a kingman 2000. NO PROBLEMS. get a spyder cuz there is more stuff made for the spyder than PMI guns. But I love PMI paint.
