This is on the front page of Paintball.com:
Winning with Tippmanns
Tippmann Effect wins the 2002 PSP/NPPL Chicago Open while shooting Tippmann markers. Throwing away stereotypes of Tippmanns being for the rec baller, the team leaves victorious.
Now personally I love to see that, since I used to be a captain of a sponsored all Tippmann Team. What do u all think, now flame me if u want, but I am glad that Tippmanns are getting there props finally.

Tippys are a great gun, they are tanks, and shoot well. However if given the choice between a timmy or a tippman i would take the timmy. Nothing horrible about a tippys performance, but in todays game most people prefer an electro that can rip strings of paint down the field....there is absolutely nothing wrong with a tippy tho.....paintball is like 80% movement/teamwork/skill...shooting is only a small portion of the game. If you can get yourself in a position to shoot an opponent out it doesn't matter how good your gun is. As long as the gun isn't holding you back then shoot it if you like it.

They won that series in FINE style too.
People snickered when they saw Tippmann take the field but were stunned when they swept round after round...
I can't remember exactly but I think 2 of them are using 98C's and the other 3 are using A-5's (It might be the reverse though)

i am pretty sure it's 3 using m98c and 2 on a-5....
when they win a 10man pro event i think people will shut up, that is novice remember...they didn't play the ironmen or dynasty

Yes.... but it was an NPPL Novice event. They may not have played against the AA's or Dynasty but they did play against some pretty HARDCORE and wellsponsored players.
This is a MAJOR step for Tippmann.....

ok here's my take: I can almost guaruntee you these guys were shooting nice, high end guns before they got this gig. They probably did it because it would be easy to get tippmann to sponsor them, seeing as they have no other teams to my knowledge. They did it to get an easy sponsorship, and if they had started out without a sponsor, they would have had one after their first major tourney. Also take note they get the best of the best to use, I bet tippmann custom mkaes all kinds of special crap for them. They have electro kits, double triggers, LP set up, and god knows what else. I personally think they are doing more harm than good removing this "sterotype" as is bad company. Kingman user's seem to slave over their team, who I bet are in the same boat as TE, and seem to flock to them when someone disses a spyder. That just isn't right. It's the same with some tippmann people, but not as many as the spyder folk. These people say (no offense sandstorm, but......) "oh we have all tippmanns just like tippmann effect. we're gonna whoop your butts with our nearly stock tippmanns" (refer to www.stickballmovies.com , new movies, TWiBS2), and the spyder people are all "DUDE! Checkout my spyder! I'm gonna whoop your but! I'm rockin Bad Company style!" and they only have a spyder xtra or aggresor with a sprint frame, if even that. This may sound stupid but I think that all guns used in tournaments are to cost in excess of $500 stock, in order to keep the n00bs quiet who think there is nothing better than a blowback (again, no offense, a blow back can be made into a good marker but these people who slave over kingman markers.....) and that they have awesome skills because they use a marker remotely like one a pro uses. In all I admit, tippmann effect is good. Bad Company is good. BUt they wouldn't be using those markers if they weren't required to. I guaruntee it.
my 2..... crap this is long..... umm 25 cents

From what I understand here's what you mean........
Tippmann Effect doesn't use Tippmanns cause they want to but because they have to, to keep Tippmann sponsorship.
And that there is no substitute for skill.

well, more of tippmann efect uses tippmanns because of the name (duh) and because they probably had good experiances with tippmanns. But there is a good chance they would be using e-mags, angel, timmies, high end cockers, etc. if they weren't sponsored by tippmann.

Paintball In General Is skill not the gun. Bad Company Does good too, they shoot spyders with normal blowback stuff(along with Em1s). Not like some of the tippmen teams that use all E bolt stuff. But as long as you get guns up to a certain par, then if the team is good enough they can win with lesser equipment then the opposing team.

my god... you are the most steryotipical pb player ive ever seen. can you not accept the fact that they like their tippmanns? cost in excess of 500 stock? so there should be only high end cockers, angels and timmies? how about automags which cost 250-300 stock? put 1000$ worth of upgrades on it and you have a gun as good as any other gun that costs that much.

ha! I didn't post for a flame war. sterotypical? nah. I'm just tired of n00bs who think their guns are so good because a pro or semi pro team uses them. It's really annoying. they may like or be able to put up with their tippmanns, but fi they were sponsored by anyone else, they wouldn't be shooting tippys.

M98c are newbie guns. Very Few People like their M98c enough to upgrade them to be good guns. Just because you think you like yours enough to do it, doesn't mean people with that kind of money do.

Yes I agree. I have seen an electro tippy in action, and they aren't bad, but to get the best you can out of a tippy, you have to spend upwards of $300-$400, and for that kind of money you could get an impulse, or a cocker with a few upgrades. Yes tippys are good n00b guns. Yes they can make decent markers. No I don't think it's worth it though.

ya, but bad company used spyder xtras. they only upgraded to amgs because "we wanted a higher rof", and theyre all stock
if bad company wanted to use high end guns, theyd use a spyder em1. instead they just use stock amgs, because they do well witht hem, and they dont need anything else.

stock impulse = high end electropnumatic gun = 400$
stock tippmann + e-bolt = high end electropnumatic gun with more modes of fire than an impulse = 400$
stock a-5 + e-bolt = high end electropnumatic gun with a cyclone feed system = 550$
the only thing i can think of that someone might not like about a tippmann 98c is the length.

Default, modes are so ***. It's not like fields allow them, let alone tournaments.and, to use an ebolt to it's full potential you need an LP set up, that's what another $150? And then a good tank? and a drop? What about a new barrel that's actually honed? Like I said way more trouble than it's worth.

Not to Mention you'll get laughed off the field....

well, you have to realize that with every gun you have to do some upgrades. new barrels, drop forwards, and HPA/Nitrogen are all the norm.
With a tippmann, you spend the same amount overall for the gun and ebolt or the response trigger as you do the stock 'cocker. im a rec player, and i sure as heck would buy a tippmann over a cocker any day. they dont break as easily. how much would you spend to make your gun never break down on you?
If i was a back man, and i needed a gun for cheap, ya know what i'd get?
Tippmann A-5 with flatline and compressed air. that costs in the neihborhood of 650?
thats a few hundred less than what people spend for their guns, with the same results.
but i guess its all personal preference.

Well, here's the thing. Once you hit a certain point, you're no longer shooting a simple blowback, but a scaled down version of a Viking. You sink $800 into ANY gun and it'll perform pretty decently. Some upgrades are givens: HPA, Revvy, etc. Some are required to make the gun perform at a higher end level (Spyder users need to buy an e-frame, Tippmann users get an RT kit or an e-bolt).
Now, I guarentee that the Tippmann markers used by Tippmann effect are probably thousand dollar custom Tippman 98s. The body and a couple of basic internals on the 98s might be stock, but you're looking at double trigger, e-bolt, LP kit, the finest nitro Tippmann can buy, custom drop, barrel (do they use flatlines...I don't think so, not sure). PaintballerX built a custom Tippmann for a guy sponsored by Tippmann that ended up costing like $1250.
The guns shoot nice. As nice as an Angel? maybe, maybe not, that debate will rage forever. As nice as $1250 will make it? Oh yeah. And they have skill to back it. Throw it together with teams underestimating TE because of their guns......you have a tourny win.
Now, when people play Bad Company they realize Bad Company has a right to get them nervous. They know they play good and they know if they lose, WDP is NOT going to like thier sponsored team losing to a Kingman sponsored one, nor are any of the other pro teams going to give them any slack about losing to Spyders.
Now TE has entered the same bracket and TE is taken seriously. I doubt they will be underestimated ever again.
ive never underestimated an opponent, my motto is "Always overestimate their abilities, but be confident that you will win"
i think the mental game played an important part, it would be interesting to change the past, hand them some angels, and see how they performed. maybe because the teams took them seriously theyd do worse. we will never know. still ebon has a point, i doubt much on those tippys was stock, but we know that bad company's amgs are stock.
