I live in Central Ohio (about 30 miles SE of Columbus) I live in the city and was shooting my paintball gun in my yard behind my privacy fence at a target i made (circular piece of cement about 12" in diameter) i fired about 3 shots and some old cranky lady next door came out and yelled at me because i was scaring her dog. (personally i think she needs to get a tougher dog.... what does it do when a car drives by and honks... i live on a busy street) I didn't even hear her dog bark, plus it was inside. My parents told me to ignore her because i have the right to shoot my gun in the yard as long as I'm not hurting anyone.

So I think what I'm asking is "Am i able to shoot my gun in my yard at a target as long as im not hurting anyone or destroying anyone's property????" (keep in mind that my who yard is fenced in with a 6 foot tall privacy fence so no paintballs are leaving the yard and no one can see me unless they look out of a second story window)

Heres a pic of my guns:

Yes, you can fire it in an enclosed space on your own property.

well i see ur point. u should have the right to but u know what, u probably dont. most places there are laws against firing guns of anykind. weather its a paintball gun or not and wether or not ur behind a 6foot high fence. technically she could file complaints to the police on u for disturbing the peace and illegal shootnig of a firearm within city limit and outside of a designated field. i know the laws are kinda dumb and i doubt even if that happened ud geta ticket of anykind. probably just get a police officer coming over saying the old hag next door wants u to not shoot the gun anymore so u dont scare her poor little puppy.

a paintball marker isnt classified as a firearm.

doesnt matter. police will consider it a projectile weapon and wont let u fire it. a lot of cities are getting laws where u cant even have it gassed up outside a field.

thats dumb. all i play is rec and we play in the woods. Does that mean if we arent in the city and the COPS catch us playin we can get in trouble even though its private property??? :(

my dad just told me to move to the other side of the house and shoot it where she can't see me.

Even if she did call the cops i don't think i would get in trouble because i have a few friends that were playing in town and had the cops called on them and all the cops said was to try and not hit anyone elses property.

some old lady called the cops on me, i was testing out my flatline, the 2 cops that came were quite amused with the distance i could get on it. but in the end they told me that they had to make me stop.

I hate living in a naighborhood. One day i was out shooting my phantom and my cousin asked if he could shoot it and he being an idiot shoots the post of my naighbors mailbox. So we go over and clean it off and she was standing in her yard on the other side of the street. We waved and said sorry. Then she calls the freakin' cops on us and reported that we nailed the mailbox and put a dent in it. So i took the cops up there to show them and they just took my name down and had me clean it ofs more. I would have understood if we hadn't gone and cleaned it off and said sorry but why the hell do people always get the cops involved.

once some lady called the cops on me because they heard a funny noise in my back yard, the cop came and thought it was a bb gun, when i told him it was a paintball gun and showed him i was just target practiceing and modifing my gun, the cop stayed for a 30 minutes cause he thought it was so neat, and he even wanted to shoot it. after that he just said be carfule and don't do anythings else but target practise in my back yard in town, and he left. haven't got a complaint yet, but i also went to all me nabiors and talked to them and told them what i was doing. now when i have it out shooting, some come over to shoot it. even a 60 year old lady.

Very cool last post. I'm convinced that if we, as a paintballing community act respectfully towards people that are suspicious of our sport, and act maturely and responsibility, Paintball as a whole will come out having a much better light shed on it. Want to win the respect of your neighbors? Explain your sport to them, and how you believe it's wrong to damage people's property with your paintball gun, etc... Be respectful.

I've always believe that if you WANT respect, you have to GIVE respect...even cranky old ladies and policeman that are overworked and underpaid...

sshamm_bone_1's post was awesome... most of the adults i know are real cool about paintball (except my neighbor!).
I would go over and talk to her about but i have never really met her (besides her yelling at me). Plus the house she lives in is rented and noone ever stays very long so by time i talk to her she'll probably move.

I'm just fine with the fact of now having to go to my grandparents house to do target practice... (alot more room).:wink3:
