View Full Version : impulse...pinching?

right now i have a gx3 cocker but i'm thinking about adding an impulse to my collection. questions...
1)is it possible to make a stock impulse pinch balls instead of chopping (kinda like cockers)?
I know there is an electronic eye out, but it seems like a lot of money and just another thing to go wrong (though i'm sure its very reliable).
2)will an LPR kit make it possible to pinch? Matrices use aardvark lprs so they pinch, so they don't even need an eye. Is it possible to make a Impulse do the same?
3)if an lpr on an impulse doesn't create pinching, wut does it do? consistant cycling pressure?
4)where can i find a impulse selling with no eye but a vertical max-flo ?
5)is it possible to buy an impulse with cocker threaded body?
6)i don't find too many impulse after-market barrels, what companies make impulse barrels besides smart parts themselves?
thanks for yur time.
btw: please don't suggest the eye, i already know about it, just don't want one.

1. yes, but with your LPR that low your efficiency is ****....you wont' get any shots
2. it will pinch...but your shot count will be terrible
3. lower solenoid pressure, more consistent, slightly less kick....its the best way
4. www.e-paintballoutlet.com and any store that sells the impulse should carry that setup
5. no, smart parts won't even sell raw bodies...
6. pretty much any barrel company....just gotta look...some threads by nature are harder to find....

Actually....
Stealth.. I may be a bit fuzzy on the effects of a LPR.... but I was under the impression that with the LPR you could decrease your bolt pressure and increase your firing pressure (which would increase the chance of pinching as opposed to chopping).

please explain this to me....i want more knowledge

The LPR controls bolt pressure... the pressure with what the bolt moves.
The Dwell is what controls how much gas is used... the dwell must be increased at operating pressure is decresed...
This means, you can lower the bolt pressure...... raise the operating pressure to say.... 200 or so and lower the dwell....
End result, lower bolt pressure = better chance of pinching, lower dwell = better gas efficiency
That's the way I understand it.

So you could put the dwell pretty short, run the maxflo at like 240, and put the bolt pressure low? that will be efficient and keep chopping down?

Yeah....
If you're shooting brittle paint though... I'd keep it down to around 200-220 psi.

sweet deal....once i get a few case through my impulse and i get a new gauge...ill set my maxflo to like 220....turn my LPR down...and see how low i get set the dwell...

wut pressure are impulses supposed to run? i thought yur not supposed to turn it over 200 psi

they run from like 125-240, well your not supposed to run them over 200 but whatever  lol

from 125- to 240 i was told to try to keep it at 180, but mine is at 200. i have to put it at 200 just to get it to shoot 280 fps. if i get a delrin bolt will that help with the pressure?

yes...a delrin should let you drop your input a little

well 180 is in the middle isnt it? ;)
You should beable to hit 280 with a 180 input, You are adjusting the dwell too right??

The Impulse... can run as high as you want it too... you could prolly put 900 psi through it.....
The SOLENOID is the weak point.... the LPR takes care of that weakness though.

technically, a stock impulse runs between 140 and 180psi. Of course, aftermarket parts lower this considerabely.
As for you questions on pinching, very few cockers that I know of are incapable of chopping, mainly the freeflow and orracle. You're safest bet with an impulse, or any other electronic marker is an eye. Its well worth the money.

The reason an orracle has a lessened chance of chopping is because of the Tickler Regulator that controls the ram pressure...... that and that and the softer hammer spring....
One of these days I will put a Tickler on my Impulse for my LPR....
With said LPR... you can reduce the risk of chopping on an impulse by reducing the hammer/bolt pressure....

Honestly though, the tickler reg is not one of the better LPR's on the market. The Rock and Sonic LPR's are both much better performers than the Tickler in all the test's I have seen in terms of consistancy and reliability.

Perhaps.... but I have moral obligations that prevent me from EVERY buying a Palmer product....
I hate the look of the Sonics.....
Bud Orr..... now he is one of the few people in Paintball that I currently have no problems with....

You guys should not be looking to lower your pressure with new parts, you should look to lower your dwell.
LP is a myth, you can shoot brittle paint through almost any gun without any problems, anything under 300psi is the same as 140 psi to the ball, it isnt going to break it upon impact.
Get an lpr, lower dwell, and adjust settings from there.

Legend...
I'm talking about lowering the bolt pressure.... not the operating pressure....
Yeah, that's what an LPR is for.... to help increase efficiency...
