Well if it was your web page would you think it was cool then

krasher

If I was the webmaster I'd be laughing my *** off. But since their webmaster only views the page every 6 months to update it...Lets see how many days it takes for someone from the company to notice it.

Creek
06-02-2001, 06:26 PM
dosen't matter if it take one day or a year before they see it,still not right. And if i was a web master I'd be pissed off.
But if thats alright I guess driving down the road shooting up peoples empty homes with paintballs is cool too since hell no one lives in it.

Creek

not puting words in your month those where mine, funny or not its still not right to mess with other peoples property and that what a web page is.other peoples property.plus thats a example of distroying peoples stuff saying shooting up a empty house. its all belongs to someone else

Creek

krasher
06-02-2001, 06:38 PM
No, what you were doing is insinuating that I thought that paintballing someone elses house was ok because I thought that hitting SP website was funny. Dude, don't play innocent now, you were flaming me. Did I ever say it was legal? Did I ever say I would do it? NO.

Creek
06-02-2001, 06:45 PM
what ever,You will know it if i flame and that wasn't it,I am not playing innocent.and if you reread my post i said.
But if thats alright I guess driving down the road shooting up peoples empty homes with paintballs is cool too since hell no one lives in it. I said I guess not your name or anyone else. it was a example not directed at you but idf you feel it was I am sorry to have made it seem that way. If my sorry isn't good eough o well

Whatever, I don't care. I just hate it when people flame other people, or make a mistake, and can't admit it. I hate stepping on eggshells all the time. Anyways I think I'm rambling now.

Generally a hacker is someone who breaks into a system for fun or is payed by a company to try and do so. A cracker is someone who breaks in a does damage. In techie land those are the definitions. :)

Its not a big deal. It's cool. I mean all the webmaster has to do is go into his FTP program and delete that page and upload the previous one again, takes about 10 seconds.

you got the craker and hacker thing backwards! hackers do damage crakers just get in to the site to get info or sell the info they found! hackers put the site down or steel files or even put bugs on the site and others! there are a few more internet criminals but i wont get into it!

Sorry incube, you have it backwards...

In addition, your definitions are too strict... basically crackers are destructive, and hackers are not. Hackers believe in freedom of information. Crackers believe in destroying people's work and sometimes attempting to get rich.

Usually web site defacements can't be classified in either category, as they serve no useful purpose, but also usually are not destructive (the hackers usually back the index.html file up, for example, and leave everything else untouched... of course, this is not always the case.

Check out http://www.attrition.org/mirror/attrition/ for the latest defacements... lots of other good info on that site also.
